I have the sinking feeling that the outcome of this poll here will be the outside cover.

Yep. And that is a total contrast to the poll in the German Profiler Forum. So what to do now?

I'd like to know if only people which are confronted with the problem voted.
If so, there has to be a huge number of german speaking people who didnt say anything but voted nonetheless.

That's only because the "use inside front" (and that's really the part that we're arguing about) option is split over several answers while the "use outside front" option is condensed in one answer.

Yes and if we count them together, we'll get a tie (at the moment), so nothing is decided yet.

I'm really quite sure that there wouldn't have been any discussion if the options would only have been:
A: Complete outside
B: Complete inside

What really annoys me, is the option to mix the covers and by this getting "Custom Covers" that don't actually exist.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

I voted [A]. I totally agree with DarklyNoon...

I voted "A", as this is the only way I see to make it easy and simple for anyone, its the cover that is shown in every store , it is the default cover.
This prevents ping pong battles.

Of course I agree that the inside without the ugly ratings logo looks much nicer, but I suggest we use that for the local database.

Not taking [...] some kind of customized covers.

But if you mix up inner and outer cover that's exactly what you get: A customized cover that in this way cannot be bought with any DVD available -> is incorrect.

Until recently, I would have voted [C]. I really hate the new rating logo, but I guess it's just a matter of time until you get used to it.

I don't think that I have to post my preference in every one of the various threads about this. But I do prefer the outside cover for the front and back side.

Nothing, IMHO. There are always going to be different opinions in cases like this. Ken has already provided Invelos's official stance on the matter earlier, and until he changes his mind - for which I see no good reason - that still stands:

We generally encourage submission of covers without stickers, and although these aren't stickers, they serve a similar purpose.

So, as long as the flip cover otherwise matches the front, I don't see a problem submitting it.

While this is something that doesn't effect me... I have to agree with Tim... since Ken gave his stance on it... that is what would need to be followed for contributions. At least until he changes his mind on the subject.

Outside. What else.

As around the world. As we have always done.

The Cover Images Rules do not cover the subject. Why not? Who would have thought to use the images from the rear side.

Now for a little locality far far away, we shall complement The Rules with other rules, about front side and rear side, about rear side of the front and front side of the rear, about what parts of the images are expendable.

Such as the "BD Live" logo, explicit new feature, but expendable on the (rear side) image (of the front).

Come on. I can't believe you are counting peas.

The rules stem from a time when there were no Wendecovers.
The fact, that some studios deliver Wendecovers shows exactly, that they would have designed the covers in a different way if they were not compelled by law to do so.

Expendable here, not expendable there, thats not the question. The rules are not the question. The question is, "WHAT DO WE WANT?"

bbbb, if you are buying a dvd or bd with wendecover, which side do you use?

This is what I asked actually.

But it looks as we won't get a clear majority.

So I think it's going on like it is now. We contribute the cover as we want and the vote and screeners decide. I see a lot of work and often changing covers coming up.

I've recounted:

DVD Profiler serves 88 localities.

In 1, the rating logo is now on the front side and no longer on the back.

Of new releases in that 1 locality, more than 76% do not even have a flip cover. And the number is growing.

From the few profiles that remain, 50% of their owners do not even want to have the rear side of the cover (interim result of this poll).

The infinitesimal rest is even splitted into several subgroups:

a. some want the rear side of the front exactly except the rating logo
b. some want the rear side of the front exactly except the rating logo and accept differences
c. some want the front side of the back side
d. some want the rear side of the back side

Then are the combinations between a or b and c or d, and at this point I've stopped counting.

Forni, outside. What else. Only difference than previously:

the still not-visibly rating logo is now on the right side of the stored DVD and no longer on the left.

Let's take the statutory rating logo on the front like real men. Like the British.

Do what politicians do, ignore the poll if you don't like the outcome.

{I know, no political discussions, but I am not singling out any particular party. They are all politicians first, before splitting up in factions.}

That doesn't matter, and actually may be a bonus. As soon as you have the cover you like, you can lock it.

Of course he is. And he doesn't even know (or choose to ignore) that the new german rating isn't the only eyesore. The small BBFC and irish rating-logos on UK-titles are bad enough, but see australian titles like

and tell me that the Australians wouldn't rather have a clean image if there where Wendecovers available.

I have a ton of UK/Australian discs and, personally, I would prefer if they were contributed how they are sold (with the logos). Being able to submit different sides is just asking for chaos IMO.

At this point I think you are wrong. Sony Home Entertainment delivers flipcovers, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment does, Paramount Home Entertainment and Senator Home Entertainment announced that they will do too this year.
I hope the other major Studios will follow. The german Bluray Community is longing for that.
