If a film's credits include a band, how should it be entered in DVD Profiler?

Option A:
<BandName>          Themselves

Option B:
<BandMember1>      Himself
<BandMember2>      Himself
<BandMember3>      Himself

Option C:
<BandMember1> [Credited as <BandName>]      Himself
<BandMember2> [Credited as <BandName>]      Himself
<BandMember3> [Credited as <BandName>]      Himself

Thanks

I think they should be entered exactly as they are credited in the movie.

Of cource, if the band members are not listed separately, they as well can be added as Uncredited, but one must make sure to verify that all members really appear in the film

This would lead to:

<BandName> Themselves
<BandMember1> [credited as <BandName>] Himself (uncredited)

Strange concept to have "credited as" and "uncredited" in the same credit.

If they are not listed individually, but there IS a credit for the entire band, then in my opinion adding them individually as uncredited is totally wrong.  Whether they receive an individual credit or not is irrelevant if they get a credit as the band.  After all, they ARE the band, and if the band gets a credit, they ALL get a share of that credit.

I have to agree with John on this one... once they are credited as the band they are credited. I would leave it just as that.

The only thing I don't like about this approach is that if I want to see what movies Steven Tyler is in (for example) I have to search for both Steven Tyler and Aerosmith.

I would prefer to have it listed as it appears in the credits. But if only the band name is credited, then each band member getting an uncredited entry as: <Bandmember1> Himself (uncredited)

Actually, the "credited as" and "uncredited" features do not go together. If you check uncredited, the credited as is disabled and does not show.

But he's NOT uncredited.  Steven Tyler IS a member of Aerosmith.  If the band gets a credit, then Tyler has automatically been credited.  As for the searching, if "Steven Tyler" doesn't give you anything, then use "Aerosmith."  How long does it take to redo the search criteria - 5 seconds or so?

I understand what your saying. Credit for the band certainly implies credit for the members. I was just going for functional over legalistic. And yeah, it only takes a few seconds to search for someone in multiple ways.  A few seconds I won't get back.  Like the time it took me to type this.  But it doesn't break anything to have Tyler listed seperately, and it does add the ability to search for him and find all his movies listed together.

One rationale for including each member of the band is that members do change over time - for example if you want Keith Moon and you just put in The Who.

We could of course argue that we do not credit neither animals nor bands.
In that case uncredited listing of each member would be valid.

I understand both sides on this -- who's in the Beau Brummels in Village of the Giants? Are they with or without Dec Mulligan? Has Don Irving joined them yet? Of course, the on-line database doesn't mention the Beau Brummels (even though they're in both the opening & ending credits), but lists the band members indivually as uncredited... including Dec, who is in the film with them (singing "Woman" which when he left the group and the band included the song on their second album released it as an instrumental...).

I suggest that the cast ought to be as credited, and members included as uncredited (if so) if reasonable criteria can be brought as to which members appear in the specific film. (I think my personal relationship with the Beau Brummels qualifies me as knowledgeable.)

Beyond that, local db only.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Yeah, except that it does break something - the rules!  If the credits don't list the individual band members, then you can't include them because you would have to list them as uncredited.  But they aren't uncredited since they are part of the band which IS credited.  However nice it might be to have those names, I can almost guarantee that if you submitted a profile set up that way, it would get zapped by nearly everybody.

The answer, obviously, is to set up your local whatever way you want to, but then don't try to contribute those profiles.

Aerosmith exists as identity seperate from Steven Tyler. So it could be argued that Steven Tyler wasn't actually credited, only his orginazation.  But I really don't want to start of fight over it.

I agree. I see no problem having them included as uncredited if someone is willing to document them.
