Have you checked if possibly for those two profiles their filed of "sort title" is empty? If they are the onle empty ones, this might be the reason for your problem

Actually I am doing data every day for a lot of profiles which don't have any or the ones I recently buy. Well, especially the last ones are "initial profiles" quite often. So I just had one ("Die Kreuzritter 8") with one Make-Up Designer and some more Make-Up Artists.

After acception of the initial contribution I got an update today - which showed me the "Designer" modified to an "Artist". First I got a little bit angry, especially as it was an initial contribution. So I got to the profile and wanted to contribute again with the correct job of that crew member.

But then the site tells me that there are no changes, altough I just declined one update!

Could anybody explain me why the data online seems to be different than the one of the newest update? Or is the something "technically" missing? Which means: Is the possibility to add a "Make-Up Designer" to a profile newer than the update process itself which means that the update process only "knows" the Artist but not the Designer?

I only can presume but agree that this text seems to be part of the DVD. But the crazy sing is: Futurama had 8 seasons, all released by the same company. The first (I think) four ones didn't have any problems with the same settings of VLC, but 5 - 8 have.

The mystery of the structure of a DVD no "amateur" is able to see and especially not to understand :-)

I just had the next fun with VLC :-)

When I wanted to type cast & crew for the last few Futurama seasons VLC told me kind of "Set the language to your native language" or something similar.

Well, my setting was "Auto", but when I changed to "German" I got the same message. As this message was in English, I changed my settings to English. Okay, DVD played - but then I had no chance to see the "credits after the credits" where all the German speakers are listed.

So I used the Leawo Blu-Ray Player to run those DVDs - and it worked.

But also that player is not able to handle "Helden auf vier Pfoten".

@Mithi: Didn't I write about avoiding those "Manual Profiles" before? Manuality multiplies work. Just for imagination: 100 people own the same set and 100 people have to do the same work for creating manual profiles.

All I try to reach is to avoid that everybody needs to do the same work.

What about promo releases? For TV Shows as well as for movies, they are gifts without EAN/UPC and they are used to have different contents.

Sorry to say, but this way it will always be a disadvantage for series. The rules cover up every little different for a movie, even the cover, by the alternative version. And if there are two, three or even more releases of a series/season with different covers but same UPC, only the first is relevant.

And I wonder how others handle the overview of 100 child profiles of one box without any box between.

As a load of franchises are growing and growing, there might come a time quite soon when greatgrandchildren-profiles are needed.

Level 1 - Box Set - The Franchise
Level 2 - Box in the Box - TV Series (1, 2, 3, different...)
Level 3 - Keepcase in the Box in the Box - Seasons
Level 4 - Discs in the Keepcase in the Box in the Box

Sorry to say: But for nearly a decade we have kind of "grandchild" profiles. I remember this quite well as I was the one who asked for a program modification then and called it "box set in a box set" (what from the sence is exactly the same)

To describe how it worked: Then I bought the Universal Classic Monster Collection (don't own it anymore), a box with I think 4 keep cases inside (don't remember if they had EAN/UPC or not). So those keep cases where the childs. But inside each of them there were 3 - 4 discs with movies (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy), and I asked for this "box set in a box set" to be able to create a child profile for every single disc.

I asked for a modification of the program and it was released quite fast.

But I also understand what you mean with those huge box sets for series, not split up in seasons. The German version of "Married with children" is one box with two digibooks inside. Similar to MacGyver and others. But so far - at least in Germany, don't know the releases of all other countries - those "all in one case" releases are the exception. I for myself remember just a few series in my collection where all the discs are in one case.

But following the rules straight by the word, doing the work for just private profiles - not allowed to share them according to the rules - multiplies work as everybody needs to create them himself to have a better overview. Best example: "Bonanza"! One box with 6 keep cases inside, totally 107 discs. And for a better overview in the collection the case-profles are needed! So just imagine 20, 30 or more of the users own this set and need to create the case-profiles themselves....

And for me it's still a contradiction: Case-profiles are allowed, if they have an EAN/UPC. But for several series we have in the database, there were used profiles WITH EAN/UPC, if the seasons DON'T have one. So they are all wrong! Especially - like mentioned in the inital post - as there is no proof that the ones WITH have exactly the same contents as the one WITHOUT.

For every single release the "alternative version" is allowed to handle the new covers etc., but not for series? Sorry, but this way simply my logial understanding bursts.

Not to forget: Size matters! A collector who maybe has just 3 or 4 complete boxes on his shelf, could handle the overview of child profiles much easier. But especially you, addicted to series, might understand how difficult it becomes if the number of series is growing (in my case actually more than 1100 series, luckily only a view with complete boxes)

And: You didn't answer the problem of buying the seasons used and the box is missing. Following the rules, then they MUST get a profile by Disc-ID.

Well, well, well, for sure I could do this simply as "private profiles" (not contributed), but in my opinion there is kind of a contradiction in the rules, where I would like to know your opinion:

Couting two passages of the rules:
"If a title does not have a UPC, then add the title by Disc ID, using your DVD-ROM drive."

"Studios occasionally re-release titles with the same UPC/EAN, but with changed content – for example Cover Images, Case Type and Overview. Subsequent releases are entered with an alternate version UPC/EAN."

But additionally the rules say - according to TV-Show-Boxsets - that child-profiles are only allowed for every single Disc by Disc-ID.

So just to make that problem easier to understand:
You buy a whole series complete - formerly a box set - but you "only" get all the seasons (without any EAN/UPC) as the seller has lost, damaged or destroyed the box which was formerly arround.

So to do it the correct way: If there has not allready been created a profile for those seasons w/o EAN/UPC, you might need to create one. Especially as the version with EAN/UPC most times has a different covers. Mostly small differences but sometimes huge ones.

According to the rules it seems to be allowed to create the profile by Disc-ID (as you don't have any EAN/UPC and 3rd part databases, which could possibly confirm that the contents of both versions are the same are not allowed!).

If I get the seasons without the box, I seem to be allowed to use the "Alternative Version" of the Disc-ID to create a Season-Profile, but as soon as I own the box, I am not?

Now this way for everybody who owns the whole series WITH the boxes around, doing it the right way (always thinking about child profiles for seasons and additionaly for every disc) this causes countless "private profiles" (with covers, which will never become of the database of invelos) which will never get any update.

And everybody who collects TV Series knows how many of them were released as "complete" during the last decade, mostly including season-boxes without EAN/UPC.

So what's your opinion?

@movie_madness: I don't see anything than a black screen.... when I tell VLC to play the DVD for a part of a second I can see a running time and then nothing again and screen remains black. If I use the right click I can choose one of the titltes/episodes on the disc to play. But all remain black. I never had this before and I hope I won't have it again. But so far this disc caused a very big Dislike :-D

@specise_8472: I could rip the DVD with several programs, but I don't want to rip it, I only want to play it to write down cast & crew. If I would need to rip every disc for editing data, I never could have done so many profiles. And ripping just to get the data is a No Go for me. Sorry!

@movie_madness: I might give this a try. But I am not sure if I shall agree or not: All data of DVDs I did, I used VLC for, and as far as I remember I've seen the copyright warning etc. of each and every disc.

@movie_madness: I won't try any other software anymore. I did it with at least 10 different programs and all of them only showed me a black screen for the DVD. It works on any DVD-Player but not on computer, so no chance for any refund. Especially our local rules: As soon as the wrap is open, there's no more chance to give it back. They started this rule a long time ago as it seemed to happen that people "bought" a DVD on day 1, made a copy at home and returned it with any claim the next day to get back their money...

@Stargamer: VLC Plus is from another free german group (https://www.vlc.de). But I had me before mentioned problems with the official VLC support: no chance to get support without an account at their site but no chance to to create one without a mobile phone.

There are still enough other profiles to do, so those dogs will have to wait. Maybe someone else owns the discs, too, and has more success playing it on computer and doing the data? On my ToDo-List it went down VERY far... :-)

@DJ Doena: I can't remember all the tools I've allready used. Some of them I only recognized after installing them for the 2nd time. The Joke is: I could rip them without any problem with several free tools which don't do that if the discs are copy protectet. That's confusing!

@mediadogg: I got the Cyberlinkg DVD Suite and even their player doesn't work for those discs.

Meanwhile I need to say: I've wasted several hours with searching for freeware, installing, trying successless and unstalling again. Meanwhile I have reached a point to say: Cast & Crew are not worth that load of work - especially as there is still no result.

And before I try more tools, I'll probably do it oldschool and write down the data on paper in front of the TV. If I would have done this (as I tried to avoid) I might be finished with the data but might have spent less time...

The worst in this case is the so called "support" of VLC (and even VLC Plus only shows a black screen) and the not existing change to create an account at them without having a mobile phone. Sorry to say but THAT SUCKS!

@mreeder50: I wanted to give the WMPlayer a try.... well: I am still on Windows 8.1 and that Windows doesn't include a DVD Player tool. I only can buy this at Microsoft for "only" 15 bucks.... And as there is no guarantee, that WMPlayer will run the problemous DVD then, I'll avoid to waste money for Microsoft ;-)

@mreeder50: Too many bad experiences with the WMPlayer... won't try it anymore

@specise_8472: Potplayer has the same problem as the others before: It shows to "start" the disc but the screen remains black.

@eommen: I can't setup this in the player but it's set up in windows for the drive. And as drive and disc are both Region 2, it should work (it did at countless others before). Leawo is just for BluRays, doesn't play DVD. According KMPlayer: Tried it within the last view days and also during "playing" nothing else than a black screen.

I can't count the apps anymore I installed for a try - never had any DVD like this one before not playable with ANY tool. I am not sure how many hours I've allready wasted but this may cause that I am not interested in cast & crew of this series anymore. Sorry!

So far the VLC Player did a good job playing DVDs on my computer to write down cast & crew. But the one I just wanted to handle doesn't play. And yes: I am up to date, have the most acutal version of the program but it still doesn't.
It's the series "Helden auf vier Pfoten" (OT: Extraordinary Dogs), and none of both discs won't play.

Alternatively I created a backup (folders as well as ISO-image) with DVDShrink but even any of those is possible to be played.

So my next thaught was to ask VLC for support. But I allready failed in creating an account as both ways to do their Two Factor Authentication seem to request a mobile phone - and I am (most times) happy to live without one. What means this way there is also no chance for any support.

And before I download several player programs with the same results, I hope one of you could name me one he has VERY good experiences with. Until today VLC was kind of a "holy grail" for me as it played absolutely everything. Not to forget to mention: On DVD Player on TV the discs run fine, but as the computer is in a separate room I won't write down the data on paper in front of the TV to type it into profiler later on at the computer.

Never before had a problem like this - but at least then I found a way for support.

The worst problem with cases like this is that the ones who do those false corrections most times don't read...
Posted:
Topic Replies: 5, Topic Views: 737
@huskersports: I knew that fact. This thread was only about if I am right with my way of parsing and by the confirmation of ObiKen I am right and the update was wrong.

@ObiKen: You just confirmed my presumption.

Shouldn't we start kind of schooling for contributors? Especially in the case of parsing there happen too many modifications from correct to wrong
Posted:
Topic Replies: 5, Topic Views: 737
I don't know who did it but I guess the "correction" was wrong.

In this movie there are playing several Native Americans and I got an update with a corrected (imo "wrong) parsing of at least two of them:

Before: Clayton - Big Eagle  /  Maretta - Big Crow
After: Clayton - Big - Eagle  /  Maretta - Big - Crow

Is anybody out there knowing more about such names? I didn't accept the update of those two as they are definitely wrong in it. Writing their names the way starting with the name they would look:

Eagle, Clayton Big  /  Crow, Maretta Big

and this can't be true. Is it?

@T!M:

Just one more question: You mentioned before that "new" ones seem to be sorted at the top?

But if all of them are new, how are they sorted? I presume that child profiles for one season are released one after another - if they were sorted by their release. So I am still not able to understand why there is a mixture between the series.

And they are always listed at the top of the "Refresh Updated DVD Profiles" screen, before the approved updates to existing profiles. Why is anyone's guess, but it's always been like that. New profiles first, then updated profiles.

That clarifies a lot. Or at least makes me able to understand the way they are sorted. Altough I still can't understand why they are not sorted by title if I click on the column header... do you understand my confusion=

and @mediadogg: especially for TV series it is very importand for me to enter sort titles. As quite often in the parent profile the number of the season is written verbally (one, two, ...) I always use the sort title to replace that per numbers (1, 2, ...) to keep series/seasons in ascending order
