| Posted: | | | | I think it would be a good idea to have a spellcheck added either to the program itself or when contributing. Especially for the Overview.
Probably the easiest would be when contributing. A simple highlight of what are errors in spelling would be helpful. |

| Posted: | | | | It may seem odd - since I created OverviewCheck - but I'm ambivalent about a built-in spell checker.
On one hand it's good that people get it right from the beginning. On the other hand, if it is automatically provided it may cause people to forget to check if it matches the actual overview text. For example, many UK releases copy the text from the US release, so it will be in American English even though it is a UK release, and a spellchecker that goes by the locality may flag some words as misspelled when they actually are correct. And by the rules, the overview text should match the back cover overview exactly, warts and all.
The same objection can of course be made against OverviewCheck, but I think that I pointed this out pretty clearly, and I believe that those who would download such a tool probably have a slightly better grasp of the rules than the average user. But who knows.
Still, I'm not totally against the idea, but I think that there should be some warning to the user that the actual text trumps the spell checker. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | I am pretty much against the idea because of the reason Gunnar pointed out. I have even less faith in people being sure not to fix the misspellings that is on the case. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Perhaps I wasn't clear enough.
This wouldn't automatically correct spelling errors. It would just highlight the errors.
Users can either go back and check it against the cover and correct it if necessary or ignore the possible errors and go through with the contribution as is. |

| Posted: | | | | Oh, I think we all understood that you didn't mean autocorrect. That's bad enough when you're texting...
Here's my concern, though. When you use a word processor and something shows up as incorrect, you check the suggestion and you change it to the correct spelling. Because that's why you have spell checkers in word processors, to spell correctly.
Now, the object of spell checking in a profile overview is somewhat different. It would be there to alert you to a possible error. But I suspect that many users would think that if your program tells you that it is wrong, then you are supposed to correct it. But that's not necessarily so. If it is misspelled on the cover you're supposed to spell it the same way in the overview in Profiler. You and I know that, but the average user may not know it, or may just correct it instinctively when the program shows that it is misspelled. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | Once again... I agree with what Gunnar has said. I understood correctly from the first post what you meant...just don't think it is a good idea. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Most typos in Overviews seem to be user created, rather than the ones already on the box... Ever since Gunnar released his spellcheck app I have seen a lot of Overview corrections come through the updates, stuff that isn't easy to find by just comparing the typed Overview and the one on the box word for word.
So I agree, having a non-auto-correcting spell checker in the program (better) or during contribution would be a nice-to-have feature.
On the other hand, quickly copying the overview and pasting it in Word/Pages/OpenOffice (others are available) or Gunnars app can do the trick almost as fast. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |
