Is Village Roadshow Pictures an Australian company, or isn't it? In other words, does Australia need to be added as an (additional) country of origin whenever it's listed as one of the companies/studios involved? I'm asking 'cause I'm noticing that, for instance, IMDb has separate entries for Australian and American branches of Village Roadshow Pictures:

- Village Roadshow Pictures [us]
- Village Roadshow Pictures [au]

Another thing I noticed, in recent films like 'Sully' or the 2016 version of 'Ghostbusters', is that while the company's big credit in the opening titles says "Village Roadshow Pictures", the copyright notice at the very end of the end credits actually says: "Village Roadshow Films North America Inc." Yet I see people happily adding Australia as a country of origin to these films... Is that right?

Is 'Sully', to name an example, (partly) an Australian film?

Interesting topic for sure.
After looking up a few business websites and wikipedia the company's structure seems to be like this:
There's a parent company Village Roadshow Limited based in Melbourne, Australia.
Then we have a few subsidiaries:
Village Roadshow Entertainment Group based in USA? with the following subsidiaries:
Village Roadshow Pictures Entertainment Inc. based in Beverly Hills, USA
Village Roadshow Pictures Asia based in Hong Kong?
and
Village Roadshow Films North America Inc. based in Wilmington, USA

So, in my opinion, a film credited with Village Roadshow Pictures as production company was most likely produced by Village Roadshow Pictures Entertainment Inc. which would mean it was produced by an US based company.
Therefore I would say no to Australia as country of origin for those films.
But to be 100% sure we would need to know exactly which company is responsible for the film's production and which company is based where.
Think different

Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.

Well, it's Australian and does include a few other interests as well. Listed on the ASX (Australian stock exchange). http://villageroadshow.com.au/ Has various business interests.

It does list it's various Village Roadshow Pictures and it does have studios in Australia. Lots of films have used these facilities from various Hollywood companies etc however locations aren't used in DvdProfiler so you never see which.

I guess when listing "Country" then it would depend which division of VRL did the movie I guess.

My own view is the parent company would be the CoO. Although this begs the question does Sony have rights for a CoO for Japan for Columbia Pictures?

Also I would include Tax incentives from Screen Australia or other state based government film bodies. Does this entitle a CoO?

Or a special effects company involved means a CoO?
