Hoping to get some help here in determining the common name for:

Hans J. Salter / H.J. Salter / H. J. Salter / Hans Salter

Usually common name threads for folks from classic movies don't do so well, hoping that's not the case here!

If anyone can confirmed any of the unconfirmed credits, that would be awesome! Thanks!

(And brings up another question... He's credited as Musical Director in a lot of these, which isn't contributable according to the rules, does Musical Director in classic films = Composer when no composer is credited?? Or meaning, SHOULD it be?)

What do you mean still?

And why wouldn't we? They're handled exactly the same in the system.

H.J. Salter gets turned into H. J. Salter, so it's inconsequential. If H.J. Salter ended up being the common name we'd still have to use H. J. Salter as it is. In fact, the system forces us to use it, and takes care of it for us by turning it into H. J. Salter.

So yes. I'm combining 2 "different credits".
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

Title < Credited as > Credit
Against All Flags < Hans J. Salter > Music
Autumn Leaves < Hans Salter > Music Composed By
Bend of the River < Hans J. Salter > Music By
Can’t Help Singing < H.J. Salter > Musical Score and Direction
Captive Wild Woman < H.J. Salter > Musical Director
The Far Horizons < Hans Salter > Music By
The Incredible Shrinking Man < no onscreen credit > N/A
It Started with Eve < H. J. Salter > Musical Score
Man Made Monster < H.J. Salter > Musical Director
The Mole People < no onscreen credit > N/A
Monster on the Campus < no onscreen credit > N/A
Phantom Lady < H.J. Salter > Musical Director
Pittsburgh < (Frank Skinner &) H. J. Salter > Music
Seven Sinners (1940) < (Frank Skinner &) H. J. Salter > Musical Score

A couple of these are a little ambiguous between the H.J. and H. J. so I took my best guess.

Even though Salter received a music credit on Seven Sinners and Pittsburgh, Charles Previn is credited as Musical Director.

On those listed where Salter is not mentioned in the credits, Joseph Gershenson has a Music Supervision (or similar) credit.
