Hi

Today, 21st October 2015, is a great date. In the film "Back to the Future" they left to see on the Flux Compensator in 1985 and did arrive in the feature exactly on 21st October 2015, to see in the film. So now we did also arrive in the Future after 30 years, but we still don't have flying cars and hoover-boards :-). Have fun with those great and timeless films ...

hoverboards may be on the horizon, as well as self "tying" shoes.  We do have flat screen TV's and phablets.  Computer waiters are popping up.

I am waiting for the self adjusting jacket

Hoverboards are here.  Not quite what we saw in the movie, but there are 3 different models out there.

Self-tying shoes are also in the works.  I saw a video today of Michael J. Fox at Nike checking out the self-tying shoes.

30 years... 30 YEARS! Wow....

So, starting today (posting on 10/22) BTTF will entirely take place in the past...

It's interesting how this movie is just soooo much more in people's minds. Many other movie's futures have come and gone: Blade Runner, RoboCop, etc. (IIRC).

Not quite; Blade Runner is 2019 (the original book started off as being set in 1992 but apparently they changed it to 2021 in later editions!), Robocop never states specifics and the co-writer said in an interview this was deliberate and he wasn't going to give a date; the book however gives the year and age Sly Stallone dies so making Robocop set in 2043-2044. <Smart arse with a search engine and too much time on his hands... sorry  >

I found these entertaining:

I find it hard to believe I was only 9 years old when I watched the movie for the first time. It seems so vivid.

Consider how many movies there have been over the decades about the future, yet this is one of the few, if not the only one that does all of the following: gives an exact date, makes the world look futuristic without looking like a completely different planet, makes it non-apocalyptic or evil, and inspires people to wonder if the world will be at all like the movie predicted while attempting to develop technology that was found in the movie.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

He who MUST get the last word in on a pointless, endless argument doesn't win. It makes him the bigger jerk.

Haha, chose pretty bad examples then.

But you know what I mean, of all those movies where the "future" has come and gone in reality, BTTF is the most famous...
