I am thinking of buying a Japanese import of a movie on blu-ray that's not available in the U.S.

Equipment is a Sony U.S. blu-ray player and a Sharp HDTV.

Will the Japanese blu-ray play on my player and display correctly on my tv?

I just don't want to waste money on it, so thought I'd ask.

BluRays from Japan and the US both have Region Code A so this will work just fine.
Recently bought films:

The Matrix [Blu-ray] | Shirins Wedding [DVD] | The Graduate [Blu-ray] | Prometheus [Blu-ray 3D] | Hwal [DVD]

Yeah, it would be my very first import. So I just worried about it.

Thanks.

If it's a Japanese Blu-ray it should play fine, since they use Region "A" the same as we do, and any SD content on Japanese BD discs will almost certainly be NTSC also.

You just might have to cope with navigating Japanese language menus on the disc. And look out for the rarer instances of BD releases with burned in or forced subtitles.
