My searching has turned up no answers.

I'm trying to figure out how to add more than one copy of the same movie.

I'm absent minded at times and I'll buy the bloody thing a second time, the exact same edition/etc.

No, unfortunately.  You can always use Tags, but no way built into the program.

I guess it wouldn't be a very common request/occurrence.

I'm also finding that my wifes DVD collection (before we were married) has a lot of similarities to mine.

What would the best way to edit a tag/custom field so I can bring up duplicates in a search?

You change the UPC of the one in your collection to "M".  You then add the movie again using the actual UPC.

Good idea, although it'd be a nice field to have in the program itself.

In the Personalize section there is field "Count As" where you can increase the number if you have more than one copy.

If you go that way, do it this way:

Flag the profile with the Space bar
Select File -> Backup Database -> Back up flagged entries only
Change the UPC to "M" (makes it a manual profile) via DVD -> Change UPC
Select File -> Restore Database -> (and this is important!) -> Restore Specific Profiles

Now you have two identical copies of the same profile in your database.

The only glitch is that a manual profile won't get automatic online database updates anymore.

And with Count As I'm assuming I can sort the database/print out a report listing anything > 1?

Sorry for the newbie type questions, I just purchased the software a few hours ago and the only thing I've done is enter in movies.

It's a bit complicated but yes.

You go into the collection list, open the drop down on the upper right side and disable "Nest Box Set"

Now you click on the header of the grid and View Columns -> Count As

Now you can sort by Count As.

Select the last entry that's still 1.

Select Collection -> Flags -> Flag All Below Current

Now you can run a report over all flagged profiles.

Thank you very much.  I think I've gotten the hang of it now.

Sort of related to this, but a bit different: Is it easy to list titles that I have a blu-ray and dvd of?  But not including combo packs?

And another unrelated question:  Is there a diff tool to check out database entries.  e.g. I'm having trouble adding my Game of Thrones seasons because there are 5ish in the online database and I don't know which one to pick.  I'd like to be able to see the differences between those entries if at all possible.

Thanks again!

Tags are the best way to accomplish this. When you are entering them, tick the tag for Blu-ray or DVD accordingly, then sort by the tag. If you are not familiar with tags, you can use the help feature or go to the Tools tab and select edit Tags. It's kind of self explanatory.

There is no compare feature. The only thing I can offer up is when adding discs, add by UPC or disc ID, then you will be sure to be adding the correct one. The only time this will not work is if the disc is not yet in the database, at which point you could do the audit and contribution yourself.

I hope this helps.

In the plugins section there's a plugin called "Find Double Dips" which can do that.

My solution for this, if I'm keeping the DVD, is to put it in the Boxset Contents of the Blu-ray.  (I also put the discs in multiple disc blu-ray cases like retail combo packs.)

I have a separate collection for duplicate films called "Retired".  If I buy a Blu-ray of a movie I already have on DVD I put the DVD in the "Retired" collection.  When I've purchased an upgrade to a DVD I put the old DVD in the "Retired" collection.  If I were to accidentally re-purchase something I already had I would put one in the "Retired" collection using a "Manual" UPC.

My main goal is find out what I have in both formats so I can sell/give away the DVD format.
