BROKEN: Screen blanks when syncing collection and multitasking

HARDWARE: Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T
Android OS: 4.2.2

ISSUE: When syncing my local database to my online database (i.e. downloading from the online database) for the first time, if I multitask (use other apps or surf the internet) the screen on DVDProfiler for Android goes blank.

It's not clear if the app has frozen or is continuing to download but the screen no longer refreshes or updates even after extended periods of time. To get the screen back the app either has to be force stopped or I have to go to the currently open apps screen and swipe it off the screen in order to reopen DVDProfiler for Android. From here I have to restart the download process.

EDIT: If I keep the DVDP app in the fore front (on screen) and leave the tablet alone the screen appears to update just fine. It appears the app isn't functioning correctly as a background task.

On my first sync, from windows DVDP to my phone, I have tried to multitask too.
When I was returned to DVDProfiler, it have stopped synchronisation, but stayed on synchronisation page. I have to resync the database.
