Right.. I've been thinking about this for quite awhile now and I can't quite figure it...

Tell me, is there a way to know that somebody has submitted a change to a profile that you have in your collection other then by coming to the website and selecting database-->Contributions-->Unvoted Pending Updates from the website menu?

I find it quite interesting that when I submit changes to existing contributions, within 12 hrs (a day at the most) people have voted on it. And, generally there's no more voter's until it gets to the screeners. Considering I usually forget to check for 'pending updates' myself, when I am perusing the forums etc, well I just wondered if there's some sort of notification or something somewhere that I am missing.

I look at the contribution notes above my contribution. You can tell then see that they have been "approved" and are pending.

I'm not sure how to check for pending data otherwise.

You lost me there Kathy....

I mean when someone else submits an update to a profile you have in your collection - thus giving you the chance to vote on the change.

For getting an overview on all pending updates for the profiles in your collection there is no other way than visiting the forum.

For seeing pending updates for a certain profile click on the "View Contributors"-icon in the "General Info"-window of DVDProfiler and then on the link "Contribution Notes".

EDIT:
There is no kind of offline-notification for pending updates to your collection.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Sorry - I should have been more clear.

The only way that I've noticed that there are pending contributions is when I am contributing that same DVD profile.

I always download data before I contribute any data/changes to be sure that my local database is up to date.

I also check the previous notes before I hit the contribute button. Sometimes I notice that that the DVD has been approved but invelos has not released that profile.

There may be another way to see if there are pending data changes but this is the only way I am aware of.

I've had exactly the same thought recently.  Often changes get voted on in a matter of minutes, or even less.  Considering most only attract a relatively small number of votes, they do seem to be made consistently quickly.  It's like people get sent an e-mail to tell them a change to a DVD they own is being proposed.

Spooky
Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?  Guttermouth "Lemon Water".  Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally.  So I'm an anarchist, deal with it.  Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted...

As far as I know, there's no other way. I check that "Database" tab multiple times a day, mostly because I'm bored
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

I think those who bother to vote check the contrbutions regularly. I usually check at least once per day. The rest... Well, most simply don't bother at all so I guess that explains why most votes are given during the first 24 hours or so.

It has become a habit to check the pending updates the first thing when I turn on the PC unless I'm busy with something else. Usually also before I turn the system off and a few times in between, as well

Note that you can also just click on the top menubar's "database"-button to go directly to Unvoted Pending Updates.

Yup, it's just "spooky" like SpikyCactus said. Most of these update voters rarely or never come into the forums, yet obviously they must be checking the Invelos site at least daily.

It's like there's all these people peering over your shoulder every time you press the "contribute" button
