At the moment there are several profiles for the Beatles film Yellow Submarine in the database, some with the band name included in the title and others without.
Which is correct?

On the cover art it says:

The Beatles
Yellow Submarine

With the name of the band in slightly bigger letters.

Concur with Lewis and the Gladiator analogy.  Yellow Submarine is a film and The Beatles are starring it as actors (or "actors" if you are a critic).  The fact that they are also a musical group only explains how they got there, not what they are doing there.

Isn't this effectively a possessive? What does the credit block say?

I don't think so.  Some Kind of Monster is a documentary about the band.  Yellow Submarine is an acutal animated film that, with the exception of the recorded music used, doesn't even star the Beatles...though they do have a cameo at the end.

But it is based on their acid trips!

Maybe go to the credit block on the back cover. If that says "The Beatles: Yellow Submarine" then that should be the title with the possessive rule. If it The Beatles in "Yellow Submarine", then just Y.S. would be the title.

For example, a couple Stephen King films, both of which he was involved in (writing and cameo acting).

Pet Sematary has his name huge on the front, about twice the size of the title, but not in the credit block, so it's title is Pet Sematary.

Sleepwalkers has his name is much smaller letters on front, about half the size of the title. But in the credit block it reads "Stephen King's Sleepwalkers", so that is the title.

It's about the possessive more than the front cover in these cases, at least that's what I was told by voters dealing with all the Stephen King and John Carpenter films I own.

No different then any title that has an actor's name above a title (whether bigger or smaller then title). So going by that... the possessive rule has nothing to do with this title. So between going by what I see on the front cover and what I read in the rules... looks to me the correct title would just be Yellow Submarine.

Standard DVD - The Beatles' Yellow Submarine

BlueRay - no mention of the title, just The Beatles at the top.

It doesn't matter what the credit block says as there is no possesive on the cover.  Pete is correct, we treat this exactly as we would any other title with a name on the front cover...we ignore it.
