I've just checked the Contribution Rules and don't see it covered, but wondered what the thoughts are on scanning non standard covers? Mainly where the cover is rotated 90degrees, personally I prefer it scanned so the text is horizontal.

thoughts?

For contribution I'd prefer portrait over landscape. If you contribute landscape the cover will be cropped to the allowed maximum width of 500 pixels, leaving it with a height of ~360 pixels. So you lose almost half the resolution as opposed to the 500 width * 700 height that is possible.
Locally I would rotate the cover afterwards, leaving me with a 700 x 500 cover.

I agree with Mithi here. Rotating the cover would result in a low-res online image.
