| | Posted: | | | | After getting a player with a region free mod, I've dramatically stepped up purchases of non-R1 releases, and now realize that entering these in my collection may not be as simple as before.
One thing I'm looking for is a thread that might be called "everything you ever wanted to know about locality but were afraid to ask ..."
The other is to offer a specific example and go from there.
I have "Jude" (3259190204621) that has NO R1 release that I know of .
Adding by DiscID offers three alternatives (vs two for EAN):
Jude (Belgium)
Jude (United Kingdom)
Jude: The Costume Collection (United Kingdom)
The artwork for the first two seem to be identical and match mine.
The art for the third differs, as well as the EAN (5050582794878) differ.
How do I choose which of the first two localities is the correct one for my entry?
The DVD came from a UK supplier, but I don't know how much that should matter. |

| | Posted: | | | | United Kingdom releases are fairly easy to identify as they will have a BBFC rating (http://www.bbfc.co.uk/) and will say 'for distribution in the United Kingdom' or similar on the back of the box (in tiny writing at the bottom somewhere).
I would think a Belgian release would be similar but shouldn't have the BBFC rating on it. |

Forgot to change my "Add DVDs" Region to "Any Region". There are lots of UPC/localities I didn't see before.
The R1 release (696306012627) is 2.35:1 NTSC, vs 1.33:1 for the R2 I have.

The cover that is stored in the belgian profile for Jude is defintively a UK rating. | | Posted: | | | | If you have difficulty identifying the correct locality, I would suggest the best place to start is the rating system that's being used on the cover. More info on various rating systems can be found here. You have to realize though that there are pan-European releases (e.g. music DVDs) for which the Locality can be fairly ambivalent. E.g. music DVDs might carry both the German FSK-0 rating and the UK's E (Exempt) symbol. One reason I wanted to learn more about localities is that for contribution purposes I need to know all the stuff that usually changes when you switch localities. In the case of "Jude", where the DiscIDs are the same between Belgium and UK, all I could see right off was the SRP change from pounds to euros. If the DiscID and cover art were different, I'd still like to have a "laundry list" of stuff to check that often changes with locality. I know that almost anything can change but having a narrower list can be helpful for checking. |

| | Posted: | | | | I understand. Having the same Disc ID across localities is not unusual in Europe, that's for sure. Sometimes disc labels will have a host of ratings printed on them (e.g. UK, Irish, Dutch, German) and while the discs are the same, the covers may be different (in this example you'd typically have a cover for UK + Ireland, one for Netherlands + Belgium and one for Germany + Switzerland + Austria, with overviews in English, Dutch (possibly combined with French) and German, respectively).
