I read that some of the makers were asked at a 2011 convention if a Blu-ray release is planned and they said they checked some of the material of the early seasons and were not content with the result. It would be a shame, because even from the 16mm masters the picture quality could be improved dramatically, even with SD-mastered SFX. (see Star Trek TOS) I would absolutely buy a Blu-ray release, even with all DVDs already in my collection. |

(see Star Trek TOS) Star Trek was shot on 35 mm film and all the special effects were done on film. They were redone for the Blu-ray because of low-quality opticals, not because they were done on video. That wasn't a thing until the 1970s. AFAIK, no 16 mm shows have been released for Blu-ray. Plenty of movies have, though. They look fine, just a bit grainier than 35 mm. IIRC, 16 mm is the reason we didn't get The Shield on Blu-ray as well. |
