I've been watching you contribute these profiles over the last months, putting all this hard work into the correct military ranks, uncredited appearances and so forth. And just wanted to say: thank you.

Thanks!

EDIT: Okay, I see, the main profile of the complete box has not the updated cast, but the child profiles. They are not available for automatic download as child profiles (no boxset content in the main profile), but I can track them down via Disc-IDs.

Offtopic, but if you don't own this great series yet, get it anyway. I read that some of the makers were asked at a 2011 convention if a Blu-ray release is planned and they said they checked some of the material of the early seasons and were not content with the result.

Source: http://www.amazon.com/review/RLQ7KL271DMKB/ref=cm_cr_dp_title?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B0022NI4HO&nodeID=2625373011&store=movies-tv

That's not a reliable source IMHO, and I hope it's not true. It would be a shame, because even from the 16mm masters the picture quality could be improved dramatically, even with SD-mastered SFX. (see Star Trek TOS)

I would absolutely buy a Blu-ray release, even with all DVDs already in my collection.

Star Trek was shot on 35 mm film and all the special effects were done on film. They were redone for the Blu-ray because of low-quality opticals, not because they were done on video. That wasn't a thing until the 1970s. AFAIK, no 16 mm shows have been released for Blu-ray. Plenty of movies have, though. They look fine, just a bit grainier than 35 mm. IIRC, 16 mm is the reason we didn't get The Shield on Blu-ray as well.
