First Blood Part 2 and Rambo II both have a trivia track feature. They have audio tracks with the regular English-language audio, plus sounds effects for the trivia track. For instance, it makes a rustling-paper sounds whenever a folder appears on-screen with trivia written on it and a sound of metal scraping on metal whenever a knife appears with trivia written on it. Is this considered other or English for our purposes?

It's not a featurette. It's a track for the main movie that you can get to by pressing the audio button.

What's the purpose of this track? Does it provide the film's (main) dubbing?
If yes: choose (most appropriate) language.
If no: choose function.

What function does the track have? Choose from the built-in options a function instead of a language.

> Other, for anything else including Audience Reaction, Participation/Sing-along, Alternate Soundtracks, Mock Languages (Thermian) or additional Sound Effects.


The limitation of the program is, that we use one field for Track Function and Track Language. This works fine as long, as everyone determines the Function first. If it's the dub for a "talkie", only then choose a language. But don't say the track has another function than providing the dub, but insist on giving it a language – it doesn't work with the given limitations.

Personally I like abstractions, it makes database design much simpler. This said, what I really miss are two "Other" options: "Other Language" and "Other Function", instead of just "Other".


Sound FX accompanying a Trivia Track, would be "Other Function", even when you can clearly hear the English Dub track "underneath". And because of the lack of "Other Function", I'd go with "Other", which clearly can't only stand for "Other Language" – not under the current set up of the audio field.

Image the pop-ups are a subtitle track and there are two audio tracks, one with the song and the bloop sound whenever a pop-up appears and the other with just the song. Rambo is essentially the same thing, but without Madonna.

SO any opinions on this and the related issues I brought up? My feeling is that all of these should be entered as English. We should only use other for tracks with languages we don't support (Mayan for Apocalypto, Thermian for Galaxy Quest, Inuktitut for The Fast Runner), no language (Quest for Fire, Begotten) or other non-linguistic content that we don't have options for. This is roughly equivalent to audio descriptive back before the program supported it, and we entered those as the appropriate language.
