As Ben Vaughn and Jeff Sudakin get the Composers credit in dvd profiler my question is: Do Alex Chilton and Chris Bell get the "Theme by" Credit? |

| | Posted: | | | | I wouldn't include them. Unlike the writer credits, there isn't an "Original material by" in the music credits. That's my opinion, though. Also, I prefer the original song by Big Star,but that's a different discussion  |

I thought you were mistaken so I double checked the rules and you are indeed correct. Although there are requirements for Composer and Song Writer, outlined in the Incorrect Roles and Notes sections, there are no such restrictions for Theme By. Therefore, based on the rules chart, Theme By credits are allowed even if they were not written specifically for that show. |

As far as I am aware, it's the former. Courage gets on Trek the theme credit for writing the music, not for the performance, as he sure was not a one-man orchestra... So going by this, only those who wrote the theme music get a credit, even if the theme has been altered to the original piece. And like Kathy pointed out correctly: the rules don't say the theme has to be an original work for a series. The producers may license any piece of music they like for the theme of their show – and it's still the Theme in the sense we track it in DVDP. |

I was not answering the question regarding the 70s Show credit with my comment. I had always thought a Theme By credit had to be specifically written for a show. Thanks to reybr I learned something new. This was the only thing I was addressing with my post. |

| | Posted: | | | | I would give theme by to Chilton & Bell. The 1st verse and music is from the original In the Street, after that Cheap Trick changed the lyrics. I would venture a guess the TV execs weren't to keen on "Stealing a car" and "wish I had a joint" which are in the original 2nd verse lyrics. |
