Just got Saving Private Ryan in the 100th Anniversary slip-cover.

Without opening it up the UPC# sticker is on the outside of the shrinkwrap and is #032429111944.

Underneath the shrinkwrap is the yellow UPC# 097360748451.

Of course the UPC# under the shrinkwrap is already in the database.

So the question.
Is it ok to enter this using the UPC# sticker on the shrinkwrap since that is what is visible in the store, or must it be from under the shrinkwrap?

I would say if there is nothing else different and you do not intend to add new cover scsans all you are asking at this point is if you can pu that in your collection.  Or am I missing something

But if you are going to enter change sI would go with the new UPC.

But that comes with a slip. So as long as the cirrect UPC shows through the slip cover window you are good.

Simple answer...yes, it is ok to create a new profile with the new UPC.

I hope you scanned the back cover before you took the shrinkwrap off so the UPC of the profile matches the image.

Yep. They are in the DB.  I know the first Iron Man came from Amazon with UPC overlaying the one on the jacket and both are in the DB

These Paramount 100th slips re-releases are exclusive to Walmart and Best Buy.

The case for Saving Private Ryan has the Sapphire logo on top. So yes, it's the same as the current blu-ray release except for the slip.

Yes I still have the shrinkwrap.

No I can't submit the covers. don't have a scanner.

I entered the UPC# into the program and it works.

I'm sure that someone else could submit the artwork (slips) at some later date if I entered the basic profile.

Talking about these 100th Anniversary slips, Universal is doing the same thing. But I don't know if they have completely new UPC#'s or the same thing here with just a new UPC# on the shrinkwrap.

Getting back to the slips, I know I could find at least the front artwork somewhere on the net. I guess that would be better than nothing.

I am undecided on this, I can see valid arguments to enter and not to.

No upc from outside the shrink wrap I've been told, although that was for a release with incorrect EAN. But I still couldn't submit a profile with the correct EAN according to Ken.

Not sure if it's relevant to this case but here is the statement from Ken.

These feel like re-issues to me, and I just bought the exact same Saving Private Ryan BD at Best Buy a couple days ago. When I ran the sticker upc, I got nothing, so I just used the Sapphire listing as that's what's under the slip-cover.

Wasn't there some similar situation with different slipcovers at Wal-Mart that determined to not add them as new versions? The only difference is the slip and sticker and price... I got this one cuz it was $5 cheaper than the Sapphire slipcover ones in the same store were at the same time. I even took both up to the counter to be sure they rang up that way (and cuz I would've taken the orignal slipcover if the same price). The disc ID's are the same, the upc not stickered is the same.

Plus why would anyone want stickers over the UPC? I've had many scans declined for still having a sticker on front! You fine yet slightly insane people hate stickers! You don't want them for upc's now, do you?!?

Store-exclusive titles use different (stickered) UPC's.  I've submitted stickered UPC's for Friends with Benefits BD/DVD (Target Exclusive) and a few others to differentiate them from the mass-released UPC, and also to not have to worry about it getting overwritten or having to keep it local. As long as the sticker is readable (not blurry or chopped off numbers).

The May 1st release of Suits: Season One has a Target exclusive bonus disc, and you can bet that that will have a different UPC than the mass-released UPC.
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

Huskersports has it right.  Along with exclusive bonus discs, many store exclusives will also have a 'store exclusive edition' that can't be used if you go with the cover UPC.  Creating a profile for that exclusive allows for those who purchase that edition to have a profile for it and not worry about it being overwritten.

Not to mention that there are times for reasons unknown that a UPC is changed midstream. But this simply sounds like a re-release to me, a different UPC but a re-release all the same.

Except for the slipcover everything is exactly the same though. If I was a slipcover tosser (that might sound dirty and/or wrong to those over the pond) there would be nothing different. At least most store exclusives used to have a bonus disc, or some extra inserts like poster replicas. This has nothing but a new slipcover and a sticker over the UPC. The only reason the sticker is there is to seperate them in Best Buy's system, although I can see the argument for seperating here also I still feel there's more reason not to. It just doesn't seem special enough to warrent another profile. The slipcovers aren't even that different looking, just a differnt border really (slightly smaller art, but the same art).

But if I am on the short end of this debate, at least I can go make my scan and slipcover match.

I am not sure why any of this matters as it doesn't really affect anybody other than the users who  purchase the different version.  The only argument I can see against the additional profile is that it takes up space in the database and, unless there is a shortage of space, I don't really see that as an issue.

I agree. No harm in allowing it, even if the only difference is the slip cover.
