Is there a time in your life you wish you could go back to and take a different path.
This I was contemplating as I looked at the screen on my computer and it seemed to be stuck on Microsoft's little message: installing 82 of 103 updates. And I just knew that would not be the end of it.

I got caught up in one of Microsoft's Catch 22s. My computer crashed and I was pretty sure of the offending program. The only mode I could start the PC would not allow me to do anything about it.
So after trying everything I could think of, I decided to start all over. After all everything of importance was saved on My Book and I had a fresh profiler save and the only thing I would loose are a few email messages of the over one million files I had on my PC. It would only take about a week to get everything back to its chaotic state of normal.

I thought about the year 2000. After I retired I took a little break from computers. I was happy with my little 486. It kept track of my books, LDs and music on dbs I had written. I could play music as any instrument on my Yamaha WX7 wind controller, tone generator, MIDI interface  and didn't have to practice he many hours it would take to keep my lip in shape as it would on a real clarinet. I had plenty of time to listen to music on any of the thousands on LPs and CDs on my Mcintosh system. I had all the great movies on LDs to watch and even a few DVDs. I could make tapes to play on 12 speaker system I built in my old 84 SAAB. Beautiful music everywhere and the time to enjoy it.

Then my big mistake, January 2000 I decided to get on the internet. Big mistake. Life was so simple.

Sure. There are several choices that have affected me through my life that I could have or should have done differently, and if given the chance to change them probably would have jumped on it without thinking.

The consolation is that since i know I can't do that, I have to believe that if I had gone down that path, there are other issues that I appreciate that would have unknowingly changed instead.

The grass is always greener.

There is a couple things I wonder how things would be different. Not so much wishful thinking... more like Wondering "What If"....

First would revolve around my father. He passed away when I was 7 years old. I sometimes wonder how life would be different if he never died. I would probably still be living in New Jersey instead of moving here to Maryland.

The other would have to be senior year of high school. Right before graduation I had a Marines recruiter try to recruit me multiple times... he came to me every day for a couple of weeks. And I was considering it at the time. So I wonder how my life would be different if I did join.

That's a good one. I moved here 12 years ago. My life would be different in every way had I not moved. Even my personality changed after living here for a short while.

I always wondered what my life would've been life if me and my sister hadn't been abducted and estranged from my father by my fool  of a mother when I was 6 years old. It took me 19 years to get back in contact with him before he died of cancer 9 years later.

By the time I was 17, I was convinced I would be dead long before I saw my 30th birthday. Had I stayed on my track, in exceedingly fast cars, earning money in music, and refusing to stay with a woman for more than 3 months, I would probably been correct. But fate stepped in... the drummer and lead guitarist got drafted, organist busted for his drug lab... and I stayed home and hung up my bass for more than a decade. I was refereeing youth soccer when I was 30, and was still coaching when I was 60. I may not be rich and famous, but I ain't dead as well.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Money and fame don't bring substance. Shame to hear your band mate's got sent off to that pointless war though.

As for myself i don't wish i had ever taken a different path on anything in my life. Hell i have made a lot of mistake's and such, but it's what make's us who we are these personal experiences. No matter how bad they are i think we are stronger from them.
