The releases of Fullmetal Alchemist: The Complete First Season (Viridian Collection) and Fullmetal Alchemist: The Complete Second Season (Viridian Collection) seem to have the wrong Locality based on the UPC codes. Season 1 with UPC 704400082696, and Season 2 with UPC 704400082702, are Region 1 releases by FUNimation, but the database shows UK as the Locality. Is there a way to contribute an update? When editing, the Regions is available to edit, but I can't find Locality anywhere.

EDIT: sorry about the subject line... it won't let me edit it and I realized as soon as I posted, that it could have been more accurate and informative.

Go to "DVD" - "Change Locality" to change the locality to US. You can then contribute this profile as a new one. State that you cloned it from the same UPC with UK locality in the contribution notes.

Next step will be a deletion request for the profile with the incorrect locality.

For doing this simply change the title to "Screeners! Please Delete This Profile" and contribute to the maindatabase.
In your contribution notes state the incorrect locality.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Objection! You should never try to derive the Locality from the UPC alone.
In this day and age with globally acting distributors almost anything is possible. I have a lot of german dvd-releases that have a 12-digit UPC and when mediadogg build a locality-check based on the first digits of the EAN into BulkEdit the results were quite underwhelming.

And not even "NTSC" is a sure sign, there are official UK-releases in NTSC because the distributors where to cheap for a new mastering.

PS Although in this special case locality US might very well be correct.

Well said, Mithi. But in this case it is right. Full Metal Alchemist was never released as 'Complete Season' sets in the UK.

I think it's another instance where someone in the UK uploaded a DVD (which they may even have bought in the UK) and thought that's what was meant by Locality. I did it once when I first got the software.

It still happens a lot. Also locality and coo are sometimes switched around. Maybe a small explanation in the rules about the difference between locality, country of purchase and country of origin?

Multiple Localities with the same UPC is not necessarily wrong, a number US and Canadian DVDs have the same UPC.
The cover is the same on both sides except that on one side of the cover has the first half of the overview is in English and the second half is in French, on the reverse side the first half of the overview is is in French and the second half in English. Other data on one side is in English and in French on the other.
Examples:
Hobo with a Shotgun and Ironclad.

This satisfies Canadian law and makes Quebec happy.
I worked in Mississauga, Canada for the International Division of CDC, and everything also had to be translated in French. Items in the grocery store the same.

But in the case of European locality I would think that the code would be EAN (13 digit number) not UPC (12 digit number).
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

Usually, yes, but not always. I have e.g. seen music DVDs released in Europe with a 12-digit UPC. There could well be others as well.

Mithi is quite right: nowadays almost anything is possible.

Thanks for the suggestions. In this case I agree with GreyHulk, and believe these are the US releases. The new profiles have already been accepted, approved and released... I have just now added the cover images and requested the old profiles be deleted.

An additional note, if you tried to add the old profiles to your collection by title and not UPC, and your locality was set to US, nothing would show up, so at the very minimum, US profiles were needed.

So going on Mithi's assertions, how would one then contribute a US profile if the same UPC existed already with a different (right or wrong) Locality?

ehm, I'm not sure I follow you. You contribute such a profile by contributing it!

The unique key for a profile is the UPC/EAN and the Locality, so 704400082696/UK and 704400082696/US would simply be two completely different sets of data.

There is currently a project going on through the UK region 2 list to remove the incorrect profiles and contribute them to the correct location & region.

We are currently working through the T's, this has taken a while but we are getting there.

I myself am currently going through the list to find the missing release dates.

Ah, so that's why my profiles are disappearing. Some of your project team is way too eager and don't bother to contribute them to another region before pulling the trigger.

For the life of me I can't understand how the removal of good profiles benefit the user base, even if they happen to be in the wrong locality.

So to all you in the clean-up gang: please, please, please do not flag profiles for deletion unless you have verified that it can be found in a different locality!

Or go blindly deleting titles that you say should be a different locality when they are purchased here in the UK through High Street Supermarkets and are purchased Shrink Wrapped.

I have several titles that I have purchased brand new from my local Tesco and Sainsbury's stores that have 12 digit UPC's that people are saying have to be deleted because of the 12 digit UPC.

Area Coding of these UPC/EAN 's no longer apply in a multi national market place. As dee1959jay said there are a lot of Music DVD's available here in the UK but with 12 digit UPC's and are only NTSC.

So unless these people know for 100% that the DVD in question is only available from USA/Canada they should leave them alone.

Steve

marcelb7 is forever put some of my local purchased DVD's up for deletion, just because they have a 12 digit UPC.

Perhaps a PM to marcelb7 to make him/her aware that the profile is a UK locality would surfice; as for as I know they are using all the search functions available on the net to find a relevant profile for the UK.

I do know that there are some 12 digit UPC's in the UK (music DVD's) and these are being left or in some cases if the profile has an extra 0 in the front it is being re-contributed without the front 0.

The cases that are found in the wrong locality are being re-submitted to the correct locality.

There are also a bunch of old Universal catalogue releases with a 12 digit UPC in the UK. None spring to mind right now, but I know I have some.
