My understanding is that invelos is programed to not change the way names are spelled during the contribution process.

For example:

My local database: John McDonald
Invelos online database: John Mcdonald

When I download a contribution my local data remains the same (McDonald) unless I change it.

Or, when I upload data, invelos' data also remains the same (Mcdonald).

Is that correct?

I did find one thread on the topic: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=266359&PageNum=1&messageID=609765#M609765.

But, it is 4 years old and I think I remember this being addressed more recently but I can't find anything.

It will change the profile online.... but it won't change how you have that person capitalized in your local... if you already have that person in your database that is. If you don't you end up with whatever capitalization is in the online database at the time. Here is what Ken said about this...

Quoting Ken Cole:

All points covered by others above, but to reiterate:
The CLT is not case-sensitive.  Also, DVD Profiler will not change the case of a cast member when accepting an update.  It does all cast member comparisons without case sensitivity as well.  It's also not possible to submit a contribution with a "Credited As" entry that varies only in case.

With all that being the case (no pun intended), there should be no reason to change your local case to match, for standard deviations such as "De Nero" or "de Nero".

The case-based ping-ponging can occur, but it amounts to nothing as the changes are not downloaded for those that already have that actor.

By the way, kudos to all on a polite, productive discussion!

My local database listed the spelling one way which is different than what is online. So, I thought the same as you in the thread you posted.

Quoting Addicted2DVD:

Thank You Ken... That is what I thought. There is no need to change the local to contribute.
.

But, in fact I did need to change my local data to what was online in order contribute, The screeners declined the contribution because I did not document where I got the name change from.

So, I resubmitted the contribution after I changed my local data to what is online and then changed my local data back to the way it was.

The screener must not have realized... I wouldn't have changed it... I would have just resubmitted with a quote and link to Ken's ruling.

The question while useful Kathy. That doesn't address the real issue of making an undocumented data change to an exiting profile. Changing the data requires some form of documentation.
ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!

I will abide by his decision regarding the contribution process as it relates to this topic.

I never documented a capitalization change... and never had a decline. Matter of fact I never even had a no vote stay on a contribution since Ken's ruling on the matter. Anymore I don't even get no votes for them.

This was the first time I received a "no" vote and requesting documentation.

But, I couldn't find the thread and just saying "I remember Ken addressed this..." isn't any good without proof.

If I ever receive a "no" vote, I will just edit the contribution highlighting Ken's clarification.

Thank you Pete and VirusPil.

Kathy, you still have not answered the fundamental question. Who is making the change you or invelos? A simple statement that Maclachlan is as credited and invelos system is making the change would suffice instead of getting defensive and trying to hide behind krn

Your opinion and judgments are not ones that I trust or feel the need to address.

So, you're wasting your time talking to me.

The Usual and expected response. For that I will assume that you are.making an undocumented change on your own and change my vote.

Why is it important? The notes. Next time someone addresses this title we will know what happened or not all based upon. Your concern for your fellow users and communicating or instead your only interest is hiding behind ken Cole. I knew the answer I am sad you actully put it into words. Oh well...

I guess I don't understand why anyone cares how it is capitalized in the online database.  When it downloads to your local, it "adopts" the capitalization that you are currently using in your local, or if it is a new name to your local database, and you don't like the way it's capitalized, you can change it to what you want, and it will stay that way going forward, regardless of what's in the on-line!

I don't have a problem except when a contribution is mistakenly declined. I posted this thread to find the relevant clarification from Ken regarding this topic.

I was not comfortable submitting the profile without being able to post Ken's actual comments on the matter.

***Moderators, please lock this thread since I am the original poster an my question has been answered. Thank you.***
