I just bought this complete set, 826831070933 , and it wasn't in the database. How do I enter this into the profiler? The set contains 5 seasons spread over 17 discs. I know there has to be some kind of parent and child profiles here, but I can't see how I can do it.

I'm thinking loud here, and of course UPC would be the parent profile, and each season as child added with discID? But how to split up the seasons within the main profile? 'm sure someone would say go for a Box set, which I certainly can do, but I would rather have one parent profile and 5 childprofiles of the seasons. But how to do it?? That's the question. Maybe that's because it hasn't been entered yet, or am I the only one who have bought this set

Hope there's some bright minds out there to help me solve this "problem"

If the seasons have their own identifying UPC/EAN, you create the Complete Set as box set with basic information, then attach the seasons as box set children.

If they don't have a UPC/EAN, you attach the discs directly.

Some people use the first disc from each season as a season identifier in such cases but personally I think that is a misuse of the DiscId because it blocks the creation of an actual disc profile.

If you don't have a season identifier you can't build a season profile, it's as simple as that - IMHO.

Locally I create manual profiles for these seasons but I contribute all discs attached to the complete box.

Here is the last thing Ken has said about it...

Ken,

I do have one question that hopefully you can advise us on.

We have instances where there is a conflict between using the disc ID of the first disc in a single season TV season for the "child profile" just for the first disc in that season, and that same disc ID is needed to profile the entire season when that season is a child of a "Complete Series" of a TV show.

Can you provide some guidance on this please?

My initial thought is that in either case, disc-level profiles should have content only from that disc.  How often does this occur?  Since we don't have grandchild profiles at the moment, how do you enter them currently.

There has been no update on this from Invelos since then that I been able to find... so disc IDs should be used for child profiles per Disc... not per season.

You should download UPC 883904245254 "Stargate Atlantis: The Complete Series"

If each season is not in individual packaging with UPC's that one is an example of what to do.

I will try that. The packaging is a very thick Keep case with 17 discs stacked inside (with a papercover around)

Then, as agreed, this should be entered with Disc IDs for the 17 child profiles.

If you have done the profile for The Commish, of course, submit it

I had zero out my on line db, and I am reloading to get the collection numbers right. It usual take three tries.
I have contributed all them with the parent profile with child profile references.

Up loadedd it four times and still isn't right, I had troublr the #&%&^ thing since I had over several thousand profiles.

I bought this set about a year ago. there is the first and second season on the online db, that has cast and crew profiled. I had those also but double dipped as The Commish is one of my favorite TV shows and just had to have the complete series. Sometimes a two part episode is combined into one.

There are no cover scans, as I remember that is about the time I had to replace my printer/scanner.
Everything else should be alright.  The episodes are numbered consecutively as that is what I do for complete set

from Mill creek because sometimes I've found they don't agree with anybody I can find online.
UI can't do ant more for them now as all my older DVDs are boxed up as I am redoing the rooms, paint, flooring, etc. After over 35 years they can use it. I want to get in shape for who I've willed it to, a daughter of a friends of mine since 1965. She is divorced, her husband was a dead beat and her son is a good and bright kid. The way things are going they're going to need all the help they can get.

All seventeen have been approved, so they should be available tomorrow. Those were done over 2,200 profiles ago.
The parent with child references will take a little longer to pass reviews..

Would it be acceptable to use an original title for each season for this profile?

Like this: DiscID's 1-4: Each disc's original title would be The Commish: Complete First Season (no The at the beginning because it's original release didn't include one, same with season 2)

DiscID's 5-8: Each disc's original title would be The Commish: Complete Second Season
DiscID's 9-12: Each disc's original title would be The Commish: Complete Third Season
DiscID's 13-16: Each disc's original title would be The Commish: Complete Fourth Season
DiscID 17: Disc original title would be The Commish: Complete Fifth Season

I ask this since the first 2 seasons were individually released (and season 3 in Australia), this align the credits in the CLT.  Otherwise we'll have 6 entries for Michael Chiklis: 1 each for seasons 1-5, and 1 for the Complete Series, when it's reallyl only 5 credits.

Thoughts?
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

These are the region USA/Canada I see on the online DB.
I have these sets
The Commish was first two seasons were released by Anchor Bay
Titles:
The Commish: Complete First Season UPC 013131280593, Nov 16, 2004
The Commish: Complete Second Season, UPC 013131281194, Feb 22, 2005

I don't have these sets
The Commish was first two seasons were released by Mill Creek
The Commish: Complete First Season UPC 683904508799, Mar 9, 2010
The Commish: Complete Second Season, UPC 683904508898, Mar 9, 2010

I Have this set
The total Series was released by Mill Creek as
The Commish: The Complete Series, UPC 826831070933, Oct. 12, 2010
So I titled them:
The Commish: Season One: Disc One
The Commish: Season One: Disc Two
.
.
.
.
The Commish: Season Five: Disc One

Since no one disc has a complete series.
The episodes are distributed differently than the Anchor Bay serioes.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

If the series was originally aired as 'The Commish' and the DVD release is 'Commish', then I don't see why not.

Sorry, I'll clarify. The original DVD releases of the 1st 2 seasons were titled The Commish: Complete First Season and The Commish: Complete Second Season.  When re-released by Mill Creek, they were titled The Commish: The Complete First Season and The Commish: The Complete Second Season. So any release after the Anchor Bay original releases would have an original title without the The before the season number.

A little off topic here, I'm glad that I bought this series, it makes me feel like the time I saw it on Norwegian TV, under the name of "Scali" I think this is the best police series ever, it's so down to earth, good characters and a twist of comedy and seriously.
Michael Chiklis plays a 38 yo man, and the series starts in 1991, Chiklis is born in 1963, which make him 28 in the first season And he was thin haired that time. But what a great actor Just some thinking here Great show anyway

I don't know that you can use the Original Title field for naming variations between seasons.  As I understand the rules, the Original Title field is only to be used when the release title differs from the title when it was aired.
