Can anyone tell me what these two roles might translate to?

Architekt - Petr Pistek

Vytvarnik - Jan Novotny

Checking IMDB, they list these two people as "production design" but they are obviously different credits, so that is obviously incorrect.  Putting these words through an online translator gives me "an architect" on the first and nothing on the second.

There is a dicritc mark over the y and the i in vytvarnik, if that means anything.

Anyone have any ideas?

Google translate translates VÝTVARNÍK as "Designer", if that helps.

Architekt is often listed, and corresponds to Production Designer, more or less the highest ranked function in art crew. (Sometimes also used in German).
I don't know about výtvarník, but it could be what others call Line Producer. I don't know what such a person does, but probably not produce lines. And we don't record those.

If this helps the vytvarnik is listed right after the architekt and before the costume and makeup credits.

I have profiled quite a few Czech films - some of which with credits subtitled to English. Frustratingly, there's been little consistency in how the roles are translated. I suspect the split of responsibility on a Czech set may not match American crew roles exactly.

My current belief is that Architekt corresponds with Production Designer and Výtvarník is closest to Set Designer.

If you're working on 'Something like happiness' there are two Czech profiles you can use as starting point.

Good call on the Czech profiles, Dag Ove!  Hadn't thought of that!

That profile lists the Architekt as Production Designer, just like Staid indicated, and the Výtvarník as the Art Director.  So that's what I'll do with mine as well.
