Good evening, Sirs,

Is something wrong with my Firefox, or is this a general problem?

Love, bbbbb

Thanks for the quick replies, Sirs.

I also have a continuous "Server not found" (time-out) error on us.imdb.com. Other sites like eg www.ebay.com or www.davestrailerpage.co.uk or www.invelos.com work without any problems.

Odd.

I'm using Firefox and both IMDB and Amazon.com loads up just fine.

Have you tried clearing the Firefox cache, restart the computer and try to visit those same sites?

Yes. I've cleared all history, then I've disabled all plug-ins and extensions, did not help. I tried Internet Explorer, same. I was in such a desperate state that I even switched off the Windows Firewall and entered ipconfig /flushdns. Nothing. I was sure now, some evil forces had hijacked my computer, damned. I connected a second PC to the FRITZ!Box, same. So no software problem. I checked for firmware updates and installed one, resetted to factory defaults, switched the router off and on again, same.

Still couldn't resolve some domain names. (Amazon eg fails to load its pictures from eg images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com, or ecx.images-amazon.com...).

Finally found out at heise.de that it's this (ongoing) provider problem:

bbbbb is back in business, the provider has reconfigured its DNS name servers. Work around was to tell the LAN Internet Protocol to use another DNS server, like 8.8.8.8 for Google Public DNS. Maybe I should keep that. Jftr.

(that was after the workaround when I tethered the 3G smartphone via USB to the computer)
