Just a small question (I hope): What order should the studios in this credit be?

This is from the credits of The Colour of Magic:
the mob tv film co
production for Sky Television
(c) 2008 RHI Entertainment Distribution, LLC

Obviously 'the mob tv film co' should come third as the production company, although I'm not sure how to enter the name (just as it is in the credits? do I leave co out of the name?).

What I'm particularly unsure about is the order of Sky Television and RHI Entertainment Distribution. I'm thinking Sky should come first as they broadcasted this mini-series, but the copyright notice has me confused.

I think RHI Entertainment Distribution (leave out the LLC) would go into the Media Company field. Reduces the problem somewhat.

RHI Distribution is actually named in the copyright block on the packaging, so they already belong in the Media Companies field.
That was fast by the way

RHI Entertainment Distribution, LLC is a Television Movie developer, producer and distirbution company.  Since they are in the actual credits, I would list them as one of the studios as well as in the MC field.

The Mob Film Company, which is how they should be entered as that is their actual name, is also a Television Movie production company so should get studio credit as well.

Sky Television is the channel where the movie originally aired, so they don't get any credit.

If it were me, I would enter them in the same order listed in the credits.

Why would Sky not be credited? I always understood that the television channel for whom a tv-(mini)series is made and who originally broadcast it is the theatrical release studio.
In fact in most profiles for tv-series I own it is done this way.

The channel that airs a tv show is comparable to the movie theater that shows a film.  The only exception would be a channel that produces their own programming...like the BBC.  This is how I have always done it.

Not a single TV set I own has the station it aired on as a studio.

HBO comes to mind.

Except in this case it sounds like it's credited/mentioned on the film itself. If on the film, it should be on the studios I would think. Most of my HBO boxsets have HBO in the credits and on the studios.

Yes, but the credit specifically says, at least the way I read it, that The Mob Film Company did the production for Sky Television.  That tells me that Sky Television did nothing but broadcast it.  For me, it is no different than, say, Fringe.  While it is broadcast on FOX, it is produced by Bad Robot and distributed by Warner Bros. Television.  FOX is nowhere in the profile because they had nothing to do with the actual show...other than airing it on their network.  As I said in my original post, that is how I would do it and why.  Others may have a different opinion and are, of course, free to do it differently.

HBO, like the BBC, would be an exception.  They have their own production arm, and do more than just broadcast the shows.  I guess I shouldn't have said 'none' as I do have a few that do.

I didn't mean to imply that they didn't.  I don't live in the UK, so I have know way of knowing.  I was speaking in general terms...which is why I included the exception.

That being said, in this case, based on the credit...and a few external sources...it doesn't sound like they produced this particular film.  If they did then, of course, they should get production credit.

As an aside, was this film any good?  I like a few of the stars...Sean Astin, Tim Curry, Jeremy Irons...but the production value looks a little low.

Here in Europe it is very common for television channels (including commercial channels like Sky, ITV and others) to devise a tv-series and then work together with a production company to create it.
In fact in this case there is a credit for an executive producer from Sky, so I think they did more than just broadcast it.

That was my thinking as well...
I would not include a television channel in the studios just because they happened to broadcast it, otherwise we would soon have a list a mile long...

I think they did a very good job, good acting, nice locations and special effects.
Of course it was made for television, so the budget is bound to be limited compared to films shot for the cinema...

A while back I noticed the blu-ray was coming out - I had read some of the Discworld stuff and it had David Jason in it who I like very much in A Touch of Frost - so I decided to just order it and see and I wasn't disappointed.

A bit off topic, but since you're discussing a Terry Pratchett vehicle...

GOING POSTAL (Sky1 2010) is due to be released 20 Sept 2011 here in USA, BD and DVD.   Same bunch who made The Colour of Magic and Hogfather. Starring Richard Coyle, David Suchet, Charles Dance, Claire Foy and Andrew Sachs.

My pre-release submissions to the DB haven't been released into the wild yet, they're in the "Received" pile.  Any day now...
