According to his official webpage, his legal given name is Billy Bob.  Therefore, I would parse it Billy Bob//Thornton.

It is quite irrelevant how you parse it in your local database but I'm sure you know that already. As for the online, I would just leave it alone, there's no point in changing it. Especially since we have been promised (more or less) that parsing will be partially or completely removed in a future program update.

And who says you can't?  I think the article was saying that his given name was 'Billy Bob' as opposed to being short for 'William Robert'.

I don't believe what you are called determines what your first name is.  My mother always calls my son by his first and middle name combined, that doesn't make it his first name.
