Currently I'm reviewing a number of TV-series box sets.

If Disc IDs are present for the box sets they are entered with episode numbers 1-3, 4-7, etc.
The numbering on the packaging is numbers 40-42, 43-46, etc., in other words the numbering is done over all series instead of per series.
The numbering in the menu of the disc I'm currently reviewing has the numbering per series.

So now I'm wondering which episode numbers to use in the Disc ID descriptions.

How about:
Series 1: Episodes 1-3
Series 1: Episodes 4-6
...
Series 2: Episodes 1-3
Series 2: Episodes 4-6
etc.

Or should that be Seasons, English is confusing sometimes.

Perhaps my explanation was not clear enough.

I'm talking about 10 box sets, 1 for each series (or season) of the same TV-series.
For the box sets where disc IDs are entered they are all entered as:
Episodes 1-3
Episodes 4-7
etc.

Ah sorry, I assumed it was one big box set with multiple seaons packaged together.

I don't suppose it matters which method you use then as long as it remains consistent over the whole series. The point is to identify the disc within the set, so any unique numbering system should be equally valid but if it makes it easier to pick the right disc from looking at the episode list on the packaging, I'd probably go with that.

If these are ten separately released box sets, I would like to number them per season. But the rules don't leave much room for interpretation:

Quote:
If the DVD or DVD packaging specifically numbers the episodes, use that number in the divider. Otherwise, episodes are to be numbered sequentially in the order that they appear on the DVD(s) in the set, with the number sequence carrying over from disc to disc.

Since you're indicating that "the numbering on the packaging is numbers 40-42, 43-46, etc.", then per the quoted rule above, that's the numbering we're supposed to use for in the online database. Since the rules specify to use that numbering for the dividers, I'd apply the same numbering to the Disc ID-descriptions as well.

To be honest, that was my reasoning as well. Just thought I would ask the question here to see if others agree, or have a different opinion.
