From the Rules
Quote:
The table below gives each of the crew roles available within DVD Profiler. For each category, include only those people credited with the roles listed in the "Role" and "Credited As" columns. If someone is not credited with one of these roles (or direct translations of these roles), do not include them in the Crew section.

Going by this part of the rules you can only enter credits that are a 100% match to what is listed and thats fine by me, so here's a poll to find out what you think

Is this a poll over what the rules say? Then it's the first option, I think it's clear what the rules say.

If this is a poll over what I want, then I want contributable custom roles within the predefined categories we have today.

Such as
H. R. Giger - Creature Designer ['Alien' Design]

EDIT: So I'm voting Other as this is a program change more than a rule change.

Rules are absolutely clear on this case. Personally, I find them stupid in this case, as are the obligation to add spelling mistakes to some actors' names, or recopy blindly overviews even when they do not match with the movie. But rules are rules, and nobody can choose what he wants to follow, and what he thinks he is allowed to violate. I proposed in the past a "common sense" reading of rules, but it was refused by a majority of users.

I use the fact that the rules also allow "direct translations" to enter people who haven't been credited exactly as listed.
Using KinoNiki's example, for me "Alien Design" is a direct translation of "Creature Design" so is allowed under the current rules.
In general though, this is a DVD profiler not a law court, if the current rules forbid good data just because they are badly written or confusing, that data's going in anyway - I let the voters decide if they want it or not.

Edit: I'd also like to see custom roles contributable too.

The rules should be clarified in the way that not only direct translations but any functional equivalent to a crew role should be officially allowed.

And yes, sometimes the rules can't be followed 100%. We have seen many questions that fall into the grey area in this forum.

Would you apply this reasoning to correct accentuation of actors' names ?

I don't see that anywhere in the rules, do you?

Seriously, I completely agree with your stance on accented names, and fought hard for it. I still think Ken made a serious mistake with his statement - I was much happier with Gerri's stance on the issue.
And, although I've never done it yet, I wouldn't hesitate in submitting an accented name if the credits are all in capitals - I would of course be honest and mention this in the notes - the voters should have all the info required for a fair response.

I would have no problem with this if it were added to the rules

I wouldn't either.

As of right now, "Only Roles that Match 100% should be enter per the Rules"

However, I voted "Other", since this is not a good approach.

Ken needs to update the crew table to reflect missing roles that we want to track. (Don't hold your breath  )

Alternatively, he needs to change the program to allow custom roles to be entered in the specific categories that currently exist in the program.

As long as we have to use shiehorning, then the Rule must be followed 100%, if it doesn't56 atch then it's not listed for Contribution purposes. That can only change if we open up the credits and use WSIWYT.
ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!

I suppose WS stands for Winston Smith, but what does the rest of WSIWYT stand for?

It's a modification of WYSIWYG, so yes, one letter was missing.
