Re-release- How to up a profile with a re-release? |

First of all, sorry If it is not the sub-forum to write this, or if somebody wrote the same time ago, I´m new and I searched in the search motor and I di´dn´t find answer.
My problem is the next:
I´m a dvd collector (in the meaning that I,m not only collect dvd's as films, I collect rare editions around the world) so, I have a lot of editions (rare editions) that are re-releases (or pre-releases) of an existing in the database, with the same UPC/EAN and the same Disc ID. How can I submit a new profile for this edition without erase the old one of the database?
For example, for Iron Man 2 Disc Target exclusive (032429-043726) I have a re-release, with same UPC and same Disc ID, vry famous and expensive for the collectors (the case is the silver mask of Iron Man, instead the red and golden one). Other example, for "Horror Expreses", I have a very extrange promotional pre-release (limited to 500) without UPC/EAN but with the same Disc ID (I91CA21AE7E180279) than other profile (for the ssame movie) in the database...And a lot of more examples... what can i do? Is going to be modified the software to accept this kind of contributions? |

You could submit the profile that's not in the database yet by Disc-ID (To change the UPC put the DVD into your DVD-Rom-drive and go to DVD-Profiler menu: "Disc -> Change UPC..." and choose "Use inserted Disc".
Technically this is allowed, even though in my understanding the Disc-ID submissions should be reserved for future boxset releases.
But then again this is only me and it might be perfectly OK for others. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

| | Posted: | | | | The profile without a UPC can be contirbuted through its Disc ID. If you also have the other profile (under the UPC but with the same Disc ID), you may not be able to enter the profile directly, since the program perceives that as a copy.
A way around is to first create a manual profile (which can be mostly empty), then use Change UPC/Inserted Disc, and copy/paste remaining data from your existing profile. | | | | Hans |

Silence of lambs: The problem is that the ID-Disc is also used by the other profile, they have the same UPC and same ID
Staid S Barr: Good tip for "myself", but also, I want to submit this "new profiles" to the online Data Base, but now the software recognice this as a copy, so is impossible...maybe in the future the software could allow this thing (maybe using a "flag" or something to indicate that is a re-release). |

The DiscID, if only present in the "Discs"-section of the profile, is not used as "Identifier". In theory even identical can be in the database twice: Once by EAN/UPC, and once by DiscID. Just try it. Change the UPC to DiscID as described above and try to contribute it. If you get no prior contributions shown you are just submitting a new profile. If there are other contribution notes shown for this DiscID it's probably better to cancel the submission though. Anyhow this method should work for your local database as long as you don't own the same UPC more than twice. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

If a profile exists under its UPC and separately under a Disc ID, even though the Disc ID is already in use, it can be contributed. Duplicate UPCs and duplicate Disc IDs (when used as identifier for the profile) are not allowed (within a locality), but duplicated Disc IDs (in the Disc Info section) are no problem | | | | Hans |
