UPC/EANs converted correctly? |

| | Posted: | | | | after restoring the 2.4-backup-file, the profiler flagged some profiles as unconverted except DVDs with that type of UPC/EAN:  these were converted from e.g. 693723-002071 to 0-693723-002071 is that correct? or should it be shortened about the "0-", before contributing a profile? |

| | Posted: | | | | For that EAN to be valid it needs the leading digit (in this case 0, profiler calculated it from the remaining digits).
EAN's have 13 digits, so use all the 13 when contributing the profile.

If it's a UPC, then it's bad data being generated - probably because it was entered with all 12 digits and looked to the program like an incomplete EAN during the upgrade. You'd have to scan the barcode to be sure, but it's probably a UPC-A by the look of it. I made a post regarding this and a related issue awhile ago, but it drowned in the sea of new posts: EAN conversion cautionBasically, if the EAN was trimmed improperly the regenerated version is wrong. No surprise there I guess, but unfortunately people are in the rush to upload so not verifying and quite a few bad profiles are coming in.  |

| | Posted: | | | | Except UPC-As are known to be in circulation in Europe, and a "06..." prefix wouldn't be a valid EAN system code for German distribution, that's a R1 code (and, trimming the other way, 69 is China.) 40... thru 44... are supposed to be standard for Germany, so I still maintain that this example is likely a UPC-A and should probably remain only 12 digits - until someone verifies the barcode with a reader or can provide a hi-rez scan of it so another can print & read it. Not sure why Panini would be using UPCs, but unless the scanned binary barcode result deviates from the text, the UPC/EAN code should be entered EXACTLY as on the cover. No assumptions should be made about what system it's "supposed" to be - this results in junk profiles in the database. |

| | Posted: | | | | I forgot to mention that all affected DVDs are german releases by SPV/SPVision. Unfortunately I don't have a barcode-scanner. Maybe today or tomorrow I can scan the barcode in hi-res. I also looked up some information about EAN and UPC barcodes but it's really confusing.  |

From a barcode reader point of view a 12-digit UPC code is the same as the corresponding 13-digit EAN code (12 digits prefixed by a zero). It's up to the reader's configuration/capability wheather it reads it as UPC or EAN. |
