I guess in the end it comes down to personal interpretation but i would consider DVDs like these to be Special Interest (But others may not)

This is the way I see it as well. Though for my local it is one I really don't actually use at all.

It's one of those non-genre genres I rarely use, but when I do use it it's mostly for tutorial or educational content, or for documentaries on VERY specific and narrow subjects.

It bugs the crap out of me to see it listed as the genre for documentaries.  I, personally, find that to be "blatently incorrect" since a documentary is a documentary.  However, I have stopped contributing that change to the online, simply to avoid arguements.  My personal feeling is that listing a documentary as "special interest" because it could be of special interest to someone makes the genre apply to absolutely EVERY dvd.  Same with using it for concerts, which should be "music."

As far as locally, the only things I have listed as Special Interest, are what I call 'relaxation' DVDs (classical music + fish swimming, or classical music + images of nature), trailer compilations, Monsters Crash the Pajama Party Spook Show Spectacular.  I used to list exercise dvds here, but I got rid of all of them.  If I had a fireplace dvd, I'd put it here too.

Basically anything that does not fit in any other category.  If it fits another catgeory, it isn't Special Interest in my opinion.

I almost never bother to change online genres, but I have to disagree about documentaries. I agree most docs are of general interest, such as Planet Earth, but a documentary about pig breeding would fall under Special Interest to me at least. The appeal should at least be somewhat general imho.

Also, things like fireplace and aquarium DVDs, I would put under Accessories rather than anything else.

Most stores use special interest for things they don't have a category for. We have categories like sports, documentary,music and accessories so using special interest for those would be redundant. I use it for non-fiction that doesn't fall into these categories. (For instance, instructional videos.)

Along with what is presented here, I use it for religious films since there is no equivalent category.
