Would this be "Creature Design" or "Visual Effects" for me the credits say they did the effects for the creatures in the film but didn't design them?, perfectly willing to accept i could be wrong, just not sure |

It's not Creature Design. The "Designed" part of the credit refers to the Creature Effects. They designed the effects for the creatures. Could be anything from makeup effects to animatronics or whatever.
It's not Visual Effects either. If anything, like I said before, the closest thing would be makeup effects. But that's kind of squeezing in a credit into a category that likely isn't accurate.
On a side note, I would advocate the addition of a Creature Effects category being added. |

| | Posted: | | | | I audited 025192029622 of this title, tagged them both as creature design, and it got approved. I didn't mention the wording in the submission though, but it has creature and design in the same short sentence, sounds like creature design to me.
Plus I know the first film was pratical effects with one kind of creature, "Graboids". The second had 2 types of creatures, "Shriekers" were created for it and shown mostly digitally. |

Now that I know who, I am more convinced it is Creature Designer. I totally agree. Originally the profile had them listed as Visual Effects...but when I edited them I felt that Creature Designer was much more accurate based on the onscreen credit. Then I did a search in my local and found them credited for Creature Design and Special Make-up Effects on the Alien films (and other such films) and was definitely convinced Creature Design was much more accurate. Also - had the onscreen credit said: Creature Visual Effects Designed and Created by I would have possibly been more inclined to go with VFX. To me, Creature Effects can be a multitude of things from skin texture, mechanicals, hair, teeth, movement, 'look' - all of which make up the design of the creature, imo. |

Rarely have I come across a straight "Creature Designed by" credit in any film. And if we're going STRICTLY by what's in the rules, that's about all that would be allowed to be entered. Since the credit seems to indicate the effects were created and based solely around the creatures in question, my gut tells me that I would enter it as Creature Designer. Would I enter it in the online? Probably not... I'm sick of getting nasty pm's because people take this shiitake mushroom way too friggin' seriously. So even if there weren't anything saying digital or the new creatures added, the credit would still be valid, albiet repeated, from the first film.
