Another thing that puzzles me some...  Is there a shortcut of some sort to be able to copy/paste the entire cast and crew to a movie posting without typing it all in from the movie?

No, just cant believe anyone takes the time to actually type out the entire cast and crew on each entry by hand. Gotta be a quicker way that I've not tripped over yet methinks.

I think most people just download from the online database.

I have a mixture of profiles I've downloaded and profiles I've manually entered/corrected/updated.

I don't know if I understand what you want, but what save a bit time:
Don't type the full name, just the first few letters of the first name and the last name. The actor list gets shorter and if you have the actor in your database, you can pick him out of the list.

But there still remains much typing.

Ok, if it is this what you're thinking of, I was absolutely on the wrong way.

For new profiles that's exactly what I do.
Already existing profiles get conveniently  downloaded (and corrected if needed).
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

It's not so bad after you do a couple profiles from scratch.

I do them all the time. I personally find it easier to do one from scratch over trying to sort through what someone else has done.

Well, somebody has to enter all info from scratch anyway so to quote Dr. Killpatient:
Quote:

I always enter everything from scratch when a profile isn't in the database, but sometimes I take the easy way out to clone a profile, but I always doublecheck everything so I'm sure it's true to the credits

There used to be a great program you could get here from an ex member by the name of Goodguy..( Mathias Woolfe) .., He had a free program, in the days where you could download an excel spread sheet and do all the cast and crew via excel and then transfer back to Invelos.. But alas He has taken his ball and gone home ..
I have the program still in my PC here but am not at liberty to distribute .. But here is the jest of the web site ( yahoo Geocities that is longer on line) ..

Install Steps

Download CreditsEditor.zip (89KB) and unpack it into a dedicated folder.
Create a shortcut to the unpacked CreditsEditor.xlt on your Start Menu.
Commands

Copy
Copies the content of the current cast or sheet to the clipboard after fully validating all data.
To paste these data into DVD Profiler, open the Edit Profile window, right-click on the current cast or crew list, then select Paste All Cast/Crew.
Paste
Pastes the content of the clipboard into the current cast or crew sheet. If the sheet already contains data, the new content will be appended. This allows you to quickly merge credits from multiple (child) profiles.
To copy credits from DVD Profiler to the clipboard, open the Edit Profile window, right-click on the current cast or crew list, then select Copy All Cast/Crew.
Clear
Deletes all data on the current cast or crew sheet.
More
Displays a popup menu with the following commands.
AutoFit Columns
Adjusts the width of all columns to fit their content. This happens automatically when you paste new data into the sheet, but you may have to re-apply the command after manually entering data.
Outline by Dividers
Toggles the Excel Outline to group credits by dividers.
AutoFilter
Toggles the Excel Autofilter.
Role First (Cast only)
Toggles the position of the Role column. Alternatively, you can change the order of all columns by manually dragging them around.
Show Credit Type (Crew only)
Shows or hides the Credit Type column, which contains the "super" type of a crew credit (e.g. Writing). This column is hidden by default, and its content is only used to restrict the choices of the CreditSubtype column. Exception: Since the CreditSubtype "Custom" can belong to any CreditType, you have to explicitly pick a CreditType.
New Sheet
Creates a new, empty sheet of the same type (cast or crew) as the current one.
Data Columns

Div - Divider
To create a divider, you enter it in this column and leave all other columns empty. The maximum length for a divider is 40 characters.
FirstName, MiddleName, LastName
Enter the name parts into the appropriate columns. At least a first name is required. The maximum length for each name part is 25 characters.
BY - Birth Year
Optional.
CreditedAs
Optional. The maximum length is 40 characters.
Role (Cast only)
Optional. The maximum length is 40 characters.
U - Uncredited, V - Voice (Cast only)
Instead of checkboxes, any text in these columns will mark the credit entry as Uncredited and/or Voice. The default text used is "u" and "v".
CreditType (Crew only)
This is the "super" type of a crew credit (e.g. Writing). It can be picked from a drop down list. The column is hidden by default, and its content is only used to restrict the choices of the CreditSubtype column. Exception: If you want to use a CustomRole without a predefined CreditSubtype, but with a predefined CreditType, you have to explicitly pick the CreditType. Otherwise, the CreditType will be "Other".
CreditSubtype (Crew only)
This is the real crew role (e.g. Screenwriter). It can be picked from a drop down list. Leave empty for an entirely custom role that should not match any of the predefined ones.
CustomRole (Crew only)
This is an optional custom crew role.
Version History

v1.0.4: Support for DVD Profiler 3.5 added.
v1.0.3: First public release.

For new titles, there is no other way.  They have to be entered from scratch and, like the others, that is exactly what I do.

TV series isn't as bad as it seems.

I try to get a cast/crew list from any place, sort them. and correct them as I go.
I save them since I know I'll be buying the next season and I just keep adding to these list.
I have these lists for every TV series that I have profiled or thought about profiling.
I have over 1500 TV series (US)/sets (UK)

If there is previous season, I use that as a starting point as I probably reedy have it.
I build the major cast into the parent profile.
I use that to start each child profile episode then all you have worry about are the guest and reaming actors. For the crew generally all that changes per episode is the director and editor and an occasional crew member. After you have the first episode build you can use the Find Cast/Crew Member tab if that person was used in a previous episode.

The Paste and Append cast/crew is the best profile extra since sliced bread.

Remember it doesn't matter where you get your data from as long as you what put in the profile agrees with what is in the DVD credits.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.

As I do with each of my profiles when I got a dvd, I only use the database for the cover scan and I do all the rest myself since I don't trust the database at all.

Try to do the complete crew and you will see that entered the cast and the contribuable crew members is nothing... For a full crew audit I've to spend between 1 or 3 hours depending of the credit lenght.
