There's a contribution up for voting right now changing Michael Herr's Narrator cast credit to a crew writing credit.  His disc credit is Narration By, which is on the same screen frame and directly under the Written By credits.  While correct that he wasn't the Narrator, what kind of credit does Narration By get?  OMB? Writer? Screenwriter?
My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT.
FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that.
Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it!

IMHO, this does not qualify for any kind of crew credit.

"Narration By" isn't in the crew table so my first thought is that I would add it as 'Other' (so not contributable). According to IMDb the OMB is the novel Heart of Darkness written by Joseph Conrad, but he's uncredited.

But according to Wikipedia this film is loosely based on this novel and a work of Michael Herr: "The script is based on Joseph Conrad's novella Heart of Darkness, and also draws elements from Michael Herr's Dispatches (...)." In the post-production of the film: "Author Michael Herr received a call from Zoetrope in January 1978 and was asked to work on the film's narration based on his well-received book about Vietnam, Dispatches. Herr said that the narration already written was "totally useless" and spent a year writing various narrations with Coppola giving him very definite guidelines."

After reading all this I'm inclined to go for an OMB credit.

Agree. "Narration by" is not in the chart, nor is it a direct translation of anything in the chart.

His OMB credit for having the narration "based on" (eg. OMB) his prior work is uncredited. We don't track uncredited crew.

His writing of the narration is sort of equivalent to "additional dialogue", which we don't track.

If he is the Narrator of the story, which can be heard in the movie, this is the only credit he gets.

The contributor is correct in deleting Herr's cast "Narrator" credit.  Martin Sheen is the narrator.

Thx for the information.
Then no credit for him in DVDP for this profile, imho.

But still, the narration is based on Michael Herr's Dispatches. I'm still in the middle. Locally I would definitely add him.

^ This.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

That sounds feasible indeed.

Just out of curiosity, in which crew writing credit is the contributor changing the cast credit?
