Hi. I'm new here, I bought DVD Profiler recently and I'm trying to contribute with some of my dvd, most of it is brazilian profiles.
The problem is that almost all of my contribution was declined and the feedback is: "An invalid source, such as a third party database, was listed in the contribution notes. Use of a third party database is not allowed per the contribution rules.".
My sources are imdb and dvd printed specifications always, but I don't know wich one is the wrong source, or both. I tried searching the forum for a valid sources list or any other answer for my problem, but I found nothing!
I need help, I'm not a clairvoyant!
Thanks.

IMDb is a third party database.  Because they copyright and license, for a fee, their data, it is not allowed.  Cast and crew, if you are going to cintribute them, must come from the actual credits of the feature on the DVD.

Welcome to the forum!  As far as DVDProfiler is concerned, the only valid source is the DVD itself.

First thing to do is peruse those contribution rules greyghost linked to.  If you've got questions about them after that (and they can be confusing) don't be afraid to ask.  We'll try not to bite.

I find it useful to state in the contribution notes that the source for the change was the DVD/end credits for each section you change.

Just note that if you say the DVD is the source when it's not, you are likely to have your contribution ability revoked.  Not saying that this is the case with you.

You contributed brazilian images to a german profile. Owners of that german DVD would not want to have brazilian images, you do not have to be a clairvoyant to foresee the outcome.

But if it's still the same data you took from IMDB, it's still not allowed.

I suggest you start over. Delete everything, then start again using only the DVD content and its cover. Ask if you need help.

Yes, I done it and was approved!
Actually, my main source is always DVD cover and credits. I used the imdb as a complement sometimes because I thought it was a respected source here, but I can see it's not, then I'll not use it again.

IMDB has it own accuracy issues.  Not as bad as some would have you believe, but at one time it was horrible.

The big problem with using IMDB, or any third party DB, is the legal issues.  IMDB is free for personal use, and I would imagine that if you wanted to scrape it for you own personal collection, there would not be an issue.

As soon as you submit it to the online, it is no longer personal.  Invelos is a business entity, and therefore the online DB is a product and service of that business.  IMDB charges for commercial use of it's information, and to use it for such is a copyright violation.

Some say they plant inaccuracies within the DB, just to catch people.  I am not sure how much of that is true, but for legal sake, Invelos does not allow coping from 3rd party DB's.  It must be your work.

It's not about it being a respected source, it's about it being against IMDbs ToS which forbids the use of their data for anything other than personal use...unless you pay a licensing fee.

Which is substantial:

Not really big inaccuries but today by exemple I did my profile for the new Troll 2 dvd release and for the role imdb use complete name and in the credit they use first name only.

So the double features (027616888990, canadian) is a copy of imdb, since complete name were used in the profile.

And no I'm not the original contributor, I only sent the profile who was already in the database when this version of DVDP was released back in 2007
