I disagree: it can be short for "Digital Effects Supervisor", but only on (very) rare occasion. Mostly, though, it's decidedly *not* the same thing. Unlike what you've found, I'm finding time and time again that these "Digital Supervisors" are practically NEVER credited as "Digital Effects Supervisors". Here's an example I can remember off-hand: consistently credited as "Digital Supervisor", but never as "Digital Effects Supervisor": the two really don't mix and match. |

Generally, these jobs are not interchangeable, and as such, I'm happy that we don't track "Digital Supervisors" in the online database. The rare occasion where I *do* feel the guy is worth tracking, I'm happy to keep it local. Let me offer a simple comparison: the word "effects" in "Sound Effects Editor", "Supervising Sound Effects Editor" or even "Sound Effects Designer". Currently, whenever the credits add that word "Effects", we don't enter them in DVD Profiler, while in many cases, they're without any doubt the Sound Editor, Supervising Sound Editor or Sound Designer we're looking for. It's unfortunate that the rules cause us to leave some valid credits out, but the line needs to be drawn somewhere, and while some may be valid, we've decided that we don't want most of those "Effects" credits. So to keep those "most" out, we lose some that may have been valid. And the ones that I do consider to be the people we're after, I get to keep locally. That's exactly the scenario that applies to digital supervisors as well: sure, there may occasionally be a valid one among them, but most are not - and the rules must draw a line somewhere.
