Right there is a contribution up for vote on Splice UPC 883929142255, which states that is has a slip cover and is a Blu-ray+DVD+Digital Copy. I bought my copy on release day from Best Buy and it is a single Blu-ray disc no slip cover. Is it possible that there are two releases of this with the same UPC?

Yes this is possible. And a google search with this EAN shows many sites with Blu-ray+DVD+Digital Copy.

I just answered my own question, Amazon.com, DVDEmpire.com, DeepDiscount.com and Target here in town all have this UPC as a Blu-ray+DVD+Digital Copy. What ever you do DON'T buy this at Best Buy as it is a single Blu-ray Disc.

Thanks for the answer VirusPill.

Yeah, there were two releases of this, Karate Kid (2010) and Nightmare on Elm Street (2010): one with the DVD/Digital Copy and one without (plus no slipcover).  It wasn't just Best Buy, as Walmart carried the 2 different versions as well.  The difference was $5.  If you had no need for the DVD version and wanted to save the cash, you had the option.

Yep and beware that I believe the Nightmare on Elm Street single disc is actually missing a few features (Karate Kid and Splice appear to have all the features sans Digital Copy/DVD).

Yep, I compared the extras and they were identical.  As I don't need the Digital Copy or the DVD, I opted for the cheaper versions.

I noticed that at the store, but wasn't positive if it was an omission on the disc or just the cover. The Manical Movie Mode and Alternate Scenes weren't mentioned, but this might be the matter of losing the slipcover formatting.  It doesn't make sense to do two separate encodes of the disc.  I picked up the single disc versions of Splice and Karate Kid, but went with the Digital Copy/DVD version of the Blu-ray for Nightmare on Elm Street just in case.

Thing is, I have the version with the DC/DVD and the inner cover mentions all the features sans digital copy (what Warner typically does is re-release it later w/o the slip cover when the DC has expired). So I have to wonder if the single disc version does have everything or not.

It seems to be getting more and more common (annoyingly) that they will put out a 'Triple' version on first release and then, when copies of that run out, keep the same UPC/EAN for the regular BD.

I've known a few online stores be caught out by this as well as purchasers where they advertise the 'triple' edition then (after re-stocking) end up with the regular BD, sending it out and getting very irate customers asking where their DVD and Digital copies are.

It seems like this is Warner Brothers new thing.  I saw "Lost Boys: The Thirst" and "Jonah Hex" at Walmart and they offer two versions of each: the Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy version at $24.96 and the single-disc Blu-ray at $19.96.  But once again, it looked like there might be some extras missing on the single versions (a la "Nightmare on Elm Street").

For those of you who like me and have gotten the single disc version of "Splice" Blu-ray, I have submitted the scans for that version. It's not for serious voting. The proper slip cover scans are up for consideration. But for those of you who don't have scanners just feel free to copy and past the scans if you like them.   I made a note for the screeners that was not a serious competing scan but more of a service for the one like myself.

Rory...
instead of taking the chance of wrong scans accidentally being accepted... why don't you send them in to cvermeylen for the Re-Release Cover Scan thread/site. I realize this is slightly different then a re-release... but it serves the same purpose as scans that shouldn't be in the main database per Rules.

Mistakes does happen... just yesterday I had a scan approved (7 yes votes 0 no votes)... and right behind it a noticeably worse scan for the title was approved for the title (0 yes votes 7 no votes)... overwriting my cover scans... making me have to recontribute them. So as I said... it does happen.

I do understand where your coming from Pete.  The timing of Approval/Disapproval seems to be 5 to 7 days right now. I plan to withdraw it in 3 days. That should be plenty of time for those who want to download the scans. (now it is actually two days, so on Sunday night they will be gone.)

That is cool... but I would still consider submitting it to Chris (cvermeylen)... that way it will always be there available for people. In case someone didn't check to vote in those few days... or didn't purchase it right away or what have you. At least that way it won't just disappear. Of course that is totally up to you.
