Dear all,

certainly this is already answered (probably multiple times), but as I did not find a correct title of forum topics or another place, so please forgive for the tiring question, but an answer or a reference to another topic would be highly appreciated. Being only a sometime contributor, I am lacking some obviously necessary know-how or skills...

1) If I want to add a DVD/BR that is not yet in the database, of however a film that is listed under another UPC or medium or whatever, do I have the possibility to copy the cast / crew (and possibly other) information from the existing one, so that I can skip the agonizing task of typing everything down anew? (Or can I "overwrite" the UPC and save under another UPC without destroying the original entry?)

2) What to do with a DVD without UPC (e.g. some AT special editions don't list ones). I could try with disc number, but it may be that the disc was also present with another edition. Replacing the older edition is not allowed as I was told (and what I also understand).

Thanks a lot for your effort, Ladies and Gentlemen.

1) You have two possibilities for this:

- Mark the profile from which you want to copy and choose menu "DVD" -> "kopieren". then mark your new profile and choose "DVD" -> "Paste". (with the option to choose the parts of the profile you want to enter)

- Mark the existing profile and the choose "DVD" -> "EAN ändern". Now you can enter the new EAN or add a Disc Id for this profile.

2) At "zur Sammlung hinzufügen" you can choose "By inserted Disc". You'll see if the Disc Id is used in a profile. If you want to be 100% sure: Make a small change and contribute. If changes are shown in your browser, there's an existing profile with this disc id. Then you just have the possibility to make the changes local and lock them. ("DVD" -> "Sperren")

Welcome to the insanity!

For searching, it's well known that the forum search is bad. Most people use Google and use their domain search (go to advanced search and type www.invelos.com and your search info and it usually brings up what you're looking for here).

You can copy cast/crew from another profile with the same info. Go to Profiler, DVD menu, Copy. Then click on the profile you want to copy to, go to DVD, paste and a menu will show up asking you what information you want to paste.  However, as editions or localities do differ, please double check against your dvd to make sure all info is correct.  (Cast and crew can change, for example). Then you can submit citing your sources.

You can also use just the disc id to contribute, however, if it is already in use, such as for a child profile, the first one in the database wins. Just go to add dvds, then add by inserted disc to just add by the id.

Edit: VirusPil types faster!

Hi,

Welcome to the forums!

1) The easiest way to eliminate all that typing is to download the same film, with a different UPC. Try and use one from your locality, ff not, there will be an extra step.

Add the DVD with the different UPC to your collection.
Then, on the top of the screen > DVD > Change UPC.
If the locality is different you need to > DVD > Change Locality.

There might be some differences in that DVD and yours so you will have to change the Cover Scans and maybe some other things.

If you decide to contribute this new DVD to the online database you will need to check that all the information is accurate and follows invelos guidelines. You can read more here: http://invelos.com/dvdpro/contributions/Rules.aspx.

2) If your DVD does not have a UPC then it needs to be entered via disc id. Invelos keeps track of all the disc ids and there is no problem entering yours.

Edit: VirusPil and LJG both type faster!

I don't type faster. Just started earlier.

Of course also a welcome to the forum from my side.

If you have further questions, the forum is always a good way to get help, so feel free to ask.

Btw, the article for "cloning" profiles in the knwoledge base:
http://www.dougweb.org/dvdpro/kb/index.php?title=Cloning_Profiles

And as alternate for the search in the forum, you can also use xxx site:invelos.com. (xxx for the search word) Imho faster than opening the advanced search at google.

Thanks for the info, all, I have put it to work, however contributions resulting from this may take a moment as I still have to do the cover scans.
