I know that every day there is a new post on someones's name for either the CLT or a New entry for Birth Year,, but where can I find the master data files for finding and confirming a BY?
I know that there is a pinned section that has accepted BY's but  it's 60 pages in length! ,,
I'm looking for a quicker lookup tool  as CLT is now..

I recently submitted a contribution and the actor John Cleese ( 1939) was automatically included in my submission of which I did nothing to alter or change or add,, yet it was declined as I hadn't added any contribution notes for his BY.  I was sure his name was already in the data base somewhere, so I didn't investigate it fully, and of course it was declined with the message from the screeners as:

Please use birth years only to distinguish between otherwise identical cast and crew. New birth year submissions must be documented.

I am not sure how it works, exactly, but any time you add a BY to a profile...even one that is already in the system...you have to document the need for it.  If you don't, it will get declined.

Thanks..,  actually  I manged to find this thread from last May 2010, and it looks like some one - somewhere snuck a profile past the screeners and it must have  'infected ' the database with a fictitious BY of John Cleese of 1939,, of which there is no such thing as IMDB doesn't assign any roman numerals behind his name..
so by using the answers provided behind that post I was able to remove all signs of  BY 1939 for Cleese throughout my data library ...

But still fails to answer my question , and to extend this:  how do we know that all BY's are legitmate?????
In my case I had to go to IMDB and check it against Profiler.., Yet we can't do the opposite and check Profiler against IMDB.. can we?

Simple answer...we don't and, no, we can't...at least not on a grand scale.  You can check individual BYs as they pop up, but that's about it.

The first few pages of the "List of Accepted Birth Years with Documentation" thread list all accepted birth years alphabetically and contain links to their documentation. No need to wade through 60 pages.

And you won't find John Cleese in there.

BTW if I understand you correctly, you corrected your profiles with John Cleese one by one? There's no need for such a cumbersome procedure. Just find a profile with him in it, open the Edit DVD window and go to Cast (or Crew, as the case may be) and click on mr. Cleese's name. Click on the Find Cast member button on the bottom right. Next click on the Edit Cast Member below the Cast list to the left and remove the birth year. This will affect all profiles with John Cleese in your database.
Please note: sometimes DVDP won't let you save the removal, because an entry without the birth year already exists. You can see in the cast list to the left whether that entry has any profiles in your database. Usually you'll find there are none - and in that case you can remove that entry altogether first (right-click on the entry with no credits in your database and then click Delete). After this you should be able to remove the invalid birth year the way I described.

As I said, removing a birth year this way once should have an effect throughout your database.

Hmm, I had to flag the checkbox for submitting John Cleese with BY. Everytime there is a checkbox, you have to document the need for the BY addition and the sources for the BY. (Without flaggin you won't submit the BY)

And yes I don't know an easier way than checking imbd (Please don't slap me) and the CLT if any others with the same name are in database.
(In the last two weeks I removed ~20 unneeded birth years locally for a clean up and there are still some more)

Because there is no check box, the some accepted, but not needed BYs are much harder to not oversee them. See this post.

And for your question to a masterlist, there is really just the pinned thread. Which lives of the done entries. And the correctness of the entries.

For finding informations and perhaps also documentation in the forum or at contribution notes a google search with "name site:invelos.com" is sometimes helpful.

The way I try to get rid of this is to clean up my database. So adding new BYs locally, that are entered in the BY thread, even if I don't need them yet.
For common names that are found I add also the variants with a mark (in Headshot or with a fake BY would also be possible) to see when a common name is needed.

If you use headshots from here, the sometimes gets to often.
In this case take the one (1) with the lower number of profiles. (No matter if with or without BY) Filter to see all profiles with him (1) and then change to the other variant (2). After the change of the last profile you can delete the variant which now doesn't have any profiles. (1)
Then correct the remaining. (2)

No as I said I was able to edit the cast member (individually picking one) by removing the BY that in effect changed all 11 entry's I had of Cleese ..

actually One thing about the way I work,, is if I don't see it right away,, I'll post a question.., But revisiting the 60 pages and discovering that it is only half a page and that top page  revised and redited (by Tim) even as late as  last week, even though that posting is two years old ..

so there is data type base after all...

I always do a google search for the person first.

In the google search box I enter "Actor Name" Invelos and hit enter. And if there is a BY for that person it'll appear in the search results with the title of thread "List of Accepted Birth Years" included is said result. If the name of the thread doesn't show up then I know it needs documentation since it's not listed yet.

It works for me.

The one thing I really wish we had with Profiler was an option whether or not to accept the BY when accepting updates.

As it stands now, to get the rest of the profile update, you have to accept the BY as well. And as we all know, that BY attaches to every single profile for that specific NAME, even if there happens to be multiple people sharing that name in your local.

The problem for me, lies in the fact that sometimes there's 20-30 profile updates, and maybe 10 of those contain BY's, and just blindly accepting them will attach that BY to that name. And sometimes it gets hard keeping track of them all.

At that point I have no choice (if I want to keep correct data) to either go in and delete them manually and make a note to check them later, or go into the profiles immediately before I forget and separate the now merged names.

I appreciate the BY system for what it tries to accomplish, but ultimately, it gets kind of annoying being forced to do something when you don't want to... at that moment. Sometimes I just want to update my stuff and walk away!!

Anywho, back to the main topic at hand, which seems to be answered already. The BY thread contains a master list that T!M updates on a regular basis of all approved BY's, they're in the first few posts of the thread. That's MUCH easier than searching through 60 pages!    There's also a handy dandy post that T!M recently introduced, right underneath the accepted and approved BY's, of invalid BY's, that contain some of the most known offenders. Samuel L. Jackson, Kathy Bates, Joel Silver etc. I'm not sure if John Cleese is there, but I think it should be if it isn't already.
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

John Cleese isn't listed there, because that birth year is no longer on Invelos' accepted list (thus: a checkbox demanding documentation appears when someone would inadvertently try to contribute it). That list of invalid ones tracks the ones that somehow managed to slip through and actually made it onto Invelos' own "approved" list (and for which no checkbox appears).

Ah!! I gotcha! I didn't realize that list was only for people with incorrectly attached BY's that managed to slip through! Guess that makes a whole lot more sense though. Otherwise that'd be one hell of a long list!

I second this and do it for nearly every audit. It's also good for finding "credited as" as that thread will pop up as well if the name is in it.
In fact, ANY search here is done through Google as the local serach don't work.
