| | Posted: | | | | Should Video Format be added to the list of things not to enter in the Boxset's Parent Profile Personally i don't enter this in the parent when i create a profile and have always thought it was in the rules but it has just been pointed out to me that it isn't  so just want to get peoples thoughts on this Have just looked at 20 of my Boxset's and 8 had the same aspect ratio for all films in the set and 12 had different ratios |

| | Posted: | | | | I've never quite understood the desire to enter this data in a parent profile. For me, the parent is nothing more than a container. I can't watch it, even if I tried. Therefore, including video/audio information seems rather pointless. Personally, I think this is more a case of see the hole, fill the hole with no real thought behind why the hole is being filled. |

That's not the case anymore, and I agree that it should be blank. You have to at least choose between NTSC and PAL because one of them is always clicked and there's no none option. | | | Karsten

I just checked and you are quite right, as long as there is a child profile attached, the program allows you to contribute with no video formats selected (apart from NTSC/PAL which we can't avoid for DVD). So yes I agree, I'd like to see this added to the rules. Though I've just thought - what about when you can't create child profiles? Most people still won't have blu-ray drives in their PCs for example. And I've just checked and you can't "cheat" by attaching manual profiles as children. So maybe a program change would be more appropriate first. |

My Blu-ray drive is physically located in the Network Attached Storage (NAS) unit which happens to be an LG unit connected to the gigabit LAN. I've mapped it to all the the PCs on the LAN (running a mix of WinXP, Vista & Win7) as B:\. All I can see in the drop-down box is my local (i.e. in the PC base unit connected directly to the mobo!) DVD drive (mapped as F:\) However DVDP does not "see" the drive at all on my PC (Vista) in \Tools\Options\System\DVD-Rom Drive\drop-down menu. To be fair, I haven't tried it on any of the other OS's. | | Posted: | | | | IMO the parent profile should feature all the info which is valid for the whole box set except what's prohibited by the rules. And the rules should prohibit a little as possible.
In conclusion the video format should be entered if it's the same for the complete set. There may be users which are only interested in the parent profile in the same spirit that some (a lot) users are only interested in the parent of TV series season profiles. For those an empty parent container doesn't make much sense. |

In (Vista's) My Computer it appears in the "Network Location" section, whereas all the four local HDD appear in the "Hard Disk Drives" section.
