For example, someone put a lot of effort into a profile submission or answered a question I had, then I think it's OK to say I gave him or her a greenie for their efforts.
If it's something more of a personal opinion matter, I wouldn't do it since that could indeed cause a contrary reaction ... I would state I'm in agreement with that user but not overtly say I gave a greenie.
In this case however, I think it's a bit of both (the advice given is helpful in avoiding conflicts yet also reflects a personal opinion). So I can see why that could possibly bother some people.
Although, honestly, before we fall over such matters I think we've seen quite a few other kinds of posts that are much more prone to starting a fire. If the forum were to come down to being careful not to overtly state when we give a greenie to someone for their positive attitude, then I would consider it a huge success as it would mean many of the more argumentative ways of posting have become part of the past. | | | Blu-ray collection

Thanks James for putting that in perspective. But it's like the  . The problem isn't really the weapons used to attack others. The problem is the people using the weapons. If I beat someone over the head with a water bottle, the correct response is to deal with ME, not to try to outlaw water bottles. People are clever. If you take away their weapons, they'll find new weapons or invent their own. I would never announce giving someone a red arrow (except for the time I lost my mind a while back  ). I typically don't announce giving out green arrows. You offered up your opinion. I offered up mine. They happen to be somewhat opposite opinions. One of the things I think is wrong with this place is that people aren't allowed to freely express their own opinion without getting attacked. To suggest that I don't want you putting your opinion out there would be the completely hypocritical of me! I welcome differing opinions.
