I entered a Canadian edition of the new blu-ray release for Doctor Zhivago tonight (friggin' love that movie... so epic), and because the second disc contained in the profile is a bonus dvd, I entered the profile as a blu-ray/dvd mixed media profile.

Looking at it now though, it doesn't seem correct to me.

Should these or are these mixed media profiles limited to when the feature film is contained on both blu-ray and dvd, or do they branch out to cover a case like this where the 2nd disc containing bonus features is a dvd and not a blu-ray?

The rules only specifically mention the same film on multiple media types, nothing in regards to bonus discs, so I'm thinking I should submit a correction to my own mistake and make the profile just a blu-ray profile.

Sound correct? Thoughts?

I gather you are saying that Dr. Z has both a BD and a DVD of the movie. Your question is puzzling since you refer to a Bonus DVD. Bonus DVD means something and that is a Disc which has special features. If you are talking about a DVD of the film as well as a Blu, why would you not have two separate profiles. The DVD is achild of the Blu, it also contains specific data to itself that is DIFFERENT from the Blu, the only way to capture and segregate the data for the Blu and the data for the DVD s via Parent Child. We've been doing this for a couple of years now.

What I think Merrick is saying, Skip, is that the DVD only contains bonus material.

So the question was should that disc have a profile.

We don't profile bonus discs separately, unless they are part of a box set with multiple films and the bonus material relates to more than one film in the set. Or, if it's a bonus feature film.

Neither does a DVD with bonus material make it a "combo" type, imho. Only when the main feature is included on multiple media types should it be entered as a combo profile.

If that's true then the Rules are clear on this point. We do NOT Profile Bonus Discs.

Agree with the conclusions above, as I understand them.

If a BluRay set has a DVD with just Bonus features on then the Rules say NOT to profile bonus disc separately and not to treat as a combo from my interpretation. The contents of the DVD would just be incorporated into the main profile features list as any 'second disc' would be on a DVD 2-disc set.

If a BluRay set has the film on the BluRay and on a DVD separately the main profile is BluRay with just the BluRay disc features/info (with BluRay and DVD ticked as a combo) and the child profile is the DVD only, with its associated features.

However I do have one question which i think is a judgement/interpretation:

If the set incluses 3 discs: BluRay of film with some features, DVD of film with some features, bonus DVD with some features; which profile would the bonus features be attached to?
My instinct would be the parent profile (as they would if the DVD of the film was not present) but I would welcome thoughts if anyone thinks that because the bonus is a DVD and there is a DVD of the film they should be grouped by media type and the features from the bonus put on the child/DVD profile.

As an aside I have just learned that even if the set is marketed as DVD with BluRay as a bonus the Rules say to use the BluRay as the parent/main profile:

"A combo which includes HD media (HD-DVD, Blu-ray) as well as DVD should use the details from the HD media in the main profile."
(my emphasis)

I would concur with your instinct: the bonus DVD goes into the main (parent) profile for the Blu-ray.

Sound correct? Thoughts?

Yes, this sounds correct.

Agree, Imho it gets a combo if the movie is on different media types.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Don't know what I was thinking when I checked off both blu-ray and dvd...

Weak brain dead moment or something.

Thanks for the clarification gents!

I'll send in an update for my mistake when I get home from school later today!

Oh, and sorry for the confusion.

I was never planning on profiling the 2nd disc (which is just a bonus dvd with special features, NOT the main film) as a completely separate profile. I had just clicked off both boxes for blu-ray and dvd in the one profile. I know the bonus dvd doesn't get it's own separate profile, but for some reason last night, in a moment of weakness or something,    I clicked both boxes and then looked at it and thought "that looks totally incorrect!". Just wanted to make sure my second instinct was correct.

What if the BD Contains the Movie, lets say as Theatrical Cut, but on disc 2, a DVD there is the European-Theatrical Version, and on Disc 3 it contains the Extended Cut?
Like "Dawn of the Dead" from Arrow Films (UK)

The BD is labeld Disc 1, and its a BD-release. So the Theatrical Cut is defined as the base release.

Are the two other Versions now just something like a "Bonus"? That would be result in setting this release just as "BD".

Or should such a release get the "Box-set" flag, and contain three additional child profiles?

I would say it's a combo since it contains multiple bonus feature films on different media, which means you are free to create child profiles if you want. It is not however a "box set", the parent profile should still contain the info for the first feature.
