Well, I am acutally working on a lot of child-profiles to improve some visibility of my huge collection. I aprreciated very much that there are child profiles for all the 5 seasons of Spacecenter Babylon 5 but I have one problem: In each season there is missing Disc 1

The Reason: It has the same Disc-Id as an existing profile of the whole season (which doesn't have a barcode and maybe is part of the complete B5-Box?)

Well, I have changed cover-scans, cast, crew and overview for my own database - but is there any chance to share this with other users who maybe would enjoy it? Could there be a chance to create two separate profiles for the same Disc-ID? Or is it neccessary to make this a "Manual DVD" for sharing?

Let me know if there is any way to handle this

Ok here is the long and the short of it. Mutliple Disc IDs are very common, none of us being in the industry, I don't think any of us know exactly why this is, but we can speculate. It could be multiple pressings of the same show (or even multiple disc plants) and so forth. What IS important to each user is that he has HIS DiscID, less so relative to the Online. But, you can log additional Disc Ids, the system captures them all, but only displays the last Contributed.

Here is my suggestion if you choose to Contribute the data. Remmber that your notes are the only permanent record relative to any given title. So I would suggest adding to your notes, something like this.

Adding Additional Disc data Copy old Disc ID # and the one you are adding, that way we have a permanent record of BOTH numbers in the notes and it will not bencessary to resubmit either of those numbers again.

I think you have misunderstood what he is talking about.  He has all five Babylon 5 season sets.  Included in each season, are the child profiles for discs 2 - 6.  He is missing the child profile for disc 1 because the disc ID, for disc 1, is being used for the season level parent profile...it doesn't have a UPC.

His question is, can he contribute the child profile for disc 1 using the disc ID.

@ Magmadrag

The answer, is no.  The disc ID can only be used for one profile.

We just had a vote on a similar issue. The result was that it's legit to take the disc 1 ID and change it to just be disc 1.

Agreed this is what has been done in the past, Disc 1 should only profile what is on that disc.

Poll or not, it is not legit to take the disc 1 ID and change it to just be disc 1.  The TV series rules require a parent profile, while disc level profiles are optional.

I agree with you Martian. I gave this a lot of thought when I got my first complete series, I Love Lucy, I could have created phantom Seasons using the Disc ID for first set, but realized this was not the correct answer. The set was made up of 40 odd discs without any individual season packaging, the set as it is in my Collection reflects the way the set was actually put together by Paramount, not how I envisioned it would be before i got a hold of it.

@Magmadrag:
The only way to handle this is to create Manual Profiles by Title for all your Discs 1. Such a profile cannot be contributed to or updated from the Invelos database. Moreover you will be unable to include the Disc IDs in these profiles.

True, but then both profiles cannot be contributed to or updated from the central database.

Depends on how disc 1 was first released.  If it is disc one from a season set that was released previous to the complete series release then disc 1 should be only disc 1.

This is what has been done with all the complete series releases I have seen where they have reused discs from the season sets.

The single seasons were there before the first complete box ever came out. I know because I own them both. The season boxes in the complete set have no UPCs which generates the problem.

vs.

For US box sets (red-silver Buffy, red Friends) it seems to be custumary to attach the disc profiles directly to the Box profiles without the usage of season profiles - if there's no UPC for the season.

That is correct since the individual seasons in the complete series collections do not have UPCs we have to add all discs to the complete series.

Example; with Buffy the Vampire.  The Seasons were released prior to the complete series (which reused the discs from the the season sets but changed the packaging.  When this complete series set first came out we didn't do disc level profiling of TV seasons so we were able to use disc 1 from each season for the complete series.  However, after the rules changed all the disc 1 from each season were changed to match that of the original (first) release for that season releases art work and all information for that disc.  Because of this change in the rules on how we profile TV seasons caused the complete series that don't have UPCs for the individual seasons or unique disc IDs to be profiled using all the discs that are included in the set.

While entering The Day After Tomorrow BD, UPC 024543-466727, from the disk ID 54DEDCB85A937AAD, I found the disc ID is shared with a different title:

Dante's Inferno: An Animated Epic, UPC 013138-31784

I've given up trying to figure out contributions. But if anybody knows how to fix this, be my guest.

What are you being prevented from doing?

Yes, Dante's Inferno (013138-317384) contains a disc ID that is also used by The Day After Tomorrow.  A little unusual.

Were you trying to create a new contribution by disc ID (the ID is not currently in use in that fashion)?

Actually, I had only just put the disc in the drive when the "Recognized ..." message came up, and when I answered yes to add the DVD, I fell off my chair when that other title came up.

So I thought that it must be wrong and that some kind of contribution would be required to fix it. I didn't realize that this was an acceptable, albeit unusual situation. Definitely gonna stick with plugins. Sorry for wasting your time.
