While watching Tomorrow Never Dies I came across this:

(This is how it appears in the credits)

Visual Effects & Videographics Team

Producer Mara Bryan

Supervisor  Bill Neil
Coordinator Sharon Lark
Art Director Mark Bowey

Designers Alec East  Gerald Daniels  James Stocks

My question is should the Supervisor & Designers get a Visual Effects credit?

IMHO, yes. Also, checking the CLT, I see that already nine 'Tomorrow Never Dies' profiles have them listed as such.

Of course not. Before I posted, I just checked to see whether I was entirely alone in my opinion or not. I wasn't.

I agree with T!M.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

I was question the fact that it said supervisor & designer only for all I knew it was for:

Videographics Supervisor & designer

The dumb question is the one that is not asked.

Supervisor and the Designers I would include in all cases. (Seem to be perfect matching)

And I think the Art Director could also get a credit. (Don't know how to treat if credited in Visuell Effects)

But the other I wouldn't include. (In Visuell Effects, there are no Coordinator and Producer in the credit chart)

I won't disagree about the dumb question comment, Orici. I woukld list the ACTUAL credit under the Custom Role and make note of it the notes so that others who use the Custom Role can cut and paste. I wonder though, while it is not a company role, using a group role for "Visual Effects & Videographics Team" adds context and texture to the individual data.

The rules do not require a company name.  They say to use group dividers for crew teams.  As the credit uses the word 'team', I think a divider is warranted.

Why not.  Just because they are listed within ILM credits, they are not an art director.

Is the only valid entry beneath a VFX company a Digital/special/visual effects Supervisor/director/designer.

I don't see this.

I do. As you've noted, the rules do allow digital/special/visual effects supervisors/directors/designers. Not digital/special/visual effects art directors. Other than that, a visual effects art director would be classed as "unit crew" (i.e. the visual effects unit), which the rules tell us not to enter. A "visual effects art director" is not the same, and should not be lumped together with, the film's actual art director.

Worse: your line of reasoning also means that we'd have to enter "visual effects editors" as "editors", visual effects producers" as "producers", "visual effects directors of photography" as "directors of photography", and so on. Please, PLEASE let's not do that.
