I recently had 3 new profiles declined due to use of birth years.  As with western actors/actress/crew, there are many people with otherwise identical names in the movie business.  Unfortunately, it is difficult to find information on the net about these duplicate names for the non-Korean speaker.  I figured this would be as good as any to keep track of these duplicate names.  I know there is a separate thread for list of accepted birth years with documentation.  But according to the rules of that thread, I can't post there until the profile has been accepted, and profile can't be accepted until the duplication has been documented.  See the vicious circle?

There is no vicious circle.  In order to get a birth year approved, you have to provide documentation of the need and the BY in your contribution notes.  That documentation is the same documentation that is posted in the BY thread.  Posting here won't change that system.  The problem, it seems, is that your documentation is not in English so the screeners can't verify it.  Gerri or Ken will need to figure out a solution to that problem.

Exactly what the Martian says. (I was too late)

But I like the idea of a thread in which we collect duplicate names in database for different actors to have the help of the community to search for the birth years and as reminder, perhaps to look up at a later point.

Even if the provide links from you were Korean I could suppose the Birth Years.

Perhaps you can try to conbtribute again. Here are some more links to those two:
http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Kim_Young_Ae with links for both
http://www.hancinema.net/korean_Kim_Yeong-ae.php
http://www.hancinema.net/korean_Kim_Young-ae.php
http://star.koreandrama.org/?p=785
http://www.koreanmovie.com/Kim_Yeong_ae_ka716/

And always remember to point out why the BY for distinguishing is needed. (Profiles with both in database -> call some of the movies)

Edit: Sorry, missed to sort the links.

Kim, Yoon-heui (1979)

Korean Profile on Daum

DOB: 1979-06-20

Has appeared in:

A Tale of Legendary Libido (2008)
A Dirty Carnival (2006)

Kim, Yoon-heui

Korean newspaper article describing a reunion for General's Son cast where Kim, Yoon-heui was selected out for special recognition for appearing in all three General's Son movies

Korean Film Archives credit for Kim, Yoon-heui in General's Son 2

DOB: ?

Has appeared in:

General's Son (1990)
General's Son 2 (1991)
General's Son 3 (1992)

General's Son trilogy was very popular in Korea.  This outlines the problem of duplicate names with B-actress who were active before the internet age.  There is very scant information on the net regarding their work.

Kim, Yoon-heui

Korean Profile on Daum

DOB: ?

Has appeared in:

The Red Shoes (2005)
A Little Monk (2002)

Kim, Yoon-heui is a very, very common name in Korea.  There are at least 17 people in the Korean Film Archive with this name.  I don't know how I can profile the other 2 actress without knowing their birth years.

It is a vicious circle.  I am posting the information here because it is easier to post links and pictures here rather than in a limited space in the contribution notes. If you think this is useless exercise, I can stop.

I wouldn't be putting in birth years unless distinguishing was needed.  I have most of these movies that I have listed in which these duplicate names have risen.

Just wanted to help.

And don't take it wrong, just another idea why it could be your BY contributions got declined:
There is just one "Yoon-heui Kim" in database. The others in database are as e.g. Kim Yun-Hee or Yun-Hee Kim. And the Kim Yun-Hee is just credited in two movies. (different actress?)

Btw, General's Son is in database, but no credits added yet. So this BY is not needed yet.

Birth years have to be documented.  You document them by providing links, to support the BY, and explaining why they are needed.  That documentation has to be in the contribution notes.

Unfortunately, not everyone adds them because they are needed.  Some users have added them simply 'because'.  Because of that, documentation of the BY and the need is required for them to be accepted.  If you don't include both in your notes, they will be declined.  This thread won't change that.

The original BY thread is not there for the screeners, it is there to let users know which BYs have already been documented so they won't have to duplicate the work.
