I'm having problems with the new 3.6 version generating PDFs.  This is a problem that started when I upgraded to 3.6.  It was NEVER a problem with the 3.5 version.

I use Acrobat Distiller to generate PDFs of my collection.  This allow me a lot of flexibility when viewing or printing the listings later.  I can take my PDFs to work and print the catalog on a color laser that is fast.  I'm generating a report that has 8 disks per page with a short description of the DVD and a Thumbnail that is about 1 inch X 1 inch.

The 3.6 version seems to generate the report properly, but when I print to Distiller, many of the thumbnails are missing.  I've juggled the resolution of Distiller and some of the thumbnails appear, but others then disappear.  I NEVER had this problem with the 3.5 Version of the software.

I don't think it's Distiller, because I don't have the problem with other applications.  It appears to be something in the way the new version of Profiler handles and converts graphics.

HAS ANYONE ELSE SEEN THIS PROBLEM?  If so, did you cure it and how?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

This has been an ongoing problem with previous Profiler versions.

Refer to the post on the next page which begins with "Black square".

It does seem related to available memory.  I use CutePDF Writer and have experienced the problem with it.  It also occurs using a real printer.

Well, I read the "Black Box" section and looks like it may be the same problem.  I don't get black boxes, just a frame with NO graphic.  I seriously doubt if it's a memory problem.  I have 4GB in my machine and by watching the process using the "Performance" section of the Task Manager, I don't get anywhere near where the limit.  I've always got almost 2GB of memory setting there idle.  Also, I've printed only a page or two instead of the whole report (177 pages) and it still happens.  It does seem to have some randomness about it though.  The graphics that disappear are not constant, it's different ones even when you print in exactly the same way.

I believe it's something in the code.  Like I said, this NEVER happened with the earlier version of Profiler.  Maybe I'm just lucky.

Hi Thezz

I print my reports into pdf like you to print them later / at work on a color-laser-printer. Printing a report today by adobe acrobat 7.1.0 std there a images missing. I downloaded 'doPDF' (freeware) for testing: works fine ! (but: pdf-files aren't compressed, very big)

just give it a try til the problem is solved  :-)

Greetings
Urmel

It appears to have been fixed.  Get the latest version and set the printer output option to alternate 1.  That worked for me.  All of the cover images show up now.

If it isn't Unix, it isn't an OS :-)
