I am seeing thumbnails on several layouts of cast and crew members. Is there some trick to this or do you have to manually add them?

Click the "View" tab at the top of the screen then put the cursor on "Windows" and make sure the "Cast" and "Crew" blocks are checked in the particular layout you've selected.  Go from there.  Within both Windows there's a block to select single or multiple images.
