I am curious why my UPC's that are printed on the sleeve from the manufacture do not match the ones in the list and when I try to correct it and contribute the new UPC it is declined?

It might help, if you could give us an example.

What is the UPC that you have, as opposed to the one you are replacing?

Is the one you are replacing actually a valid UPC for a different version/copy of the movie/show you are entering?  If so, you need to contribute a new profile to the DB.

But, without further info, it is kind of hard to answer your question.

A lot of releases are released with more then one UPC.  As for why your contribution was declined... it could be several reasons. Did you check and follow the rules for contributions? What reason was written for the decline (most give at least a vague idea) to check this go to My Profiler --> Contributions.

Some of the most common reasons for declines would be...

- Cast/Crew from IMDB (or anywhere other then the actual film credits)
- Uncredited cast without documentation

Changing the UPC and contributing creates a new profile. So you have to give the complete sources. The screeners don't see that you correct/change an existing profile in such cases.

But why it was declined?? ... Also no idea without further infos. (Se other posts)

First problem is that i see you saying you are CORRECTING. You  correct NOTHING in this regard. Any given movie can be released with as many as FOUR different UOPCs, dependiant on the security system involved or lack thereof. We don't want Wal-Mart merchandise being shipped to best buy...do we, after all.You can contribute your paticular UPC, assuming you follow the Rules, but if you are indeed trying to "correct" something to match yours, you shouldbe declined EVEY TIME.

You can't really correct a UPC, only submit a new profile with a different UPC. If you were sumbitting with the cover scan that had the other UPC, it would be declined.

What he said. I had to create at least a dozen new profiles when I was picking up ex-rents from Hollywood's store closing sales a couple years back. Literally every disc I bought from there wasn't in the db for that UPC, although the disc ID's matched retail profile so I just would grab those, change the UPC and submit a scan of at least the new back cover/UPC to prove it exists. Not posiive if scans are manitory for new UPC's, I'm sure they help.

This.

Rentals are notorious for not being in the system, although they are (in many cases) the same DVD that is in the system.

I have three I have to scan up the back covers for and submit here pretty soon.

The only time you could correct a UPC code is if it were wrong in the first place. Example. The existing profile in the data base has a UPC code with only 11 numbers and not 12. I had one like this. The profile was missing the last number, so I contributed the profile with a back image showing the UPC code and the change to the code, with notes showing it needed to be fixed.

I can't tell you how many times the Target I work at has received shipments of DVDs with the Walmart sticker under the shrinkwrap!  The first few times I saw it, I assumed it was guest service being careless with returns, but then I saw them in the boxes that came from the delivery trucks.

Not sure if this is actually what you meant by security system, but it's actually due to the way the DVDs are distributed. At this point many stores receive their DVDs from the exact same distributer. They don't receive them from a warehouse directly related to that specific retailer or a specific film distributer. There is a big company that handles most if not all of the distributions of media to big retailers.

I used to work at Circuit City (RIP) and we used to have all our DVD and media shipped to our warehouse, then it was shipped to us. We never saw these mislabels. Then it was decided we'd go through this company to handle all of our distribution needs (forget the name) and sure enough, we'd receive DVDs that had Walmart and Target stickers on them quite often.

Not really on topic, but I thought I'd clarify.

Not at all, it happens that CC, Target and Wal Mart all use the same security systems,. The security system, Checkpoint or whatever are installed by the distributor. Best Buy uses a different system, i think as do other retailers. It would not be useful to have the Security System products for CC show up at Best buy because they would not trigger the Best buy system. Thus each of the three different systems involved and the lack of security system all typically get different UPC#s. It has always been so.

Now what happens relative to a middle man shipper such as Ingram, which is what you are describing Vittra. I am talking about as they are shipped from THE DISTRIBUTOR, whoever it happens to be, WHV, BVHE or whoever.

Ah, my mistake. And yeah, we used Checkpoint. I just noticed that ever since we changed to the middle man shipper (Ingram might have been it, sounds really familiar) we started getting mislabeled DVDs. Lots of Walmart and Kmart stickers.
