Anyone out there have it and have checked the quality of the transfer? I have read several places that it's kinda like the first edition of The Fifth Element, in other words, crappy. I haven't bought it myself, yet, but want to have it confirmed from other users here, or from other forums that is reliable.
I don't know how to react on those screenshots that are taken, it's kind of hard to believe that a BD-ROM player in a computer gives a reliable screenshot. The screenshot is ok, but a BD-ROM player isn't what we call high-end. So if all of the "reviews" are based on BD-ROM playing, I would like to hear from people with stand alone players and good TV's.

The transfer should be better on BD anyway compared to my R1 signature edition, imo...

You're right about that but some sites do send them out early. I've had several releases up to 3 weeks before they've been officially released before so there might be some who have it already.

wow, 3 weeks. I've heard of a couple days or more commonly delivery on the release day but didn't realize  there could be that much of an early delivery (I don't really preorder much)

I am suprised blu-ray.com hasn't reviewed it yet because I know sites like that tend to get advanced copies for review.

I've only seen the pictures at DVDBeaver and I was not impressed. The pictures display signs of both edge enhancement and digital noise reduction. Compared to Braveheart, it looks quite poor...

You may not notice this on a small screen but it's a major PITA for those with large projection screens.

I also know that the release is september 1st, and the earliest "review" I saw was this site. But yet again, it's hard to say when there's used a BD-ROM to take the capture. And if all the "reviwers" used a HTPC/PS3 for a source and not a stand-alone BD player, I will as mentioned wait for serious reviews from highdefdigest or similar to test it properly. I just can't believe it's that bad on BD when Scanbox dvd's looks great from a dvd player with upconversion. (Scanbox is a scandinavian distributor who usually have crappy releases, with no extras, MPEG sound, and wrong aspectratios, like 4:3 letterbox on most releases, but in the later years they have got anamorphic releases)

I don't see why a BD-Rom drive would be of lower quality than a standalone player, or at least make a significant difference. The computer can handle the resolutions, I guess I could see the software player being used having an effect but the drive is just providing the raw information off the disc is it not?

If there was some problem with the capturing process, surely it would be visible on the Braveheart caps as well, but it's not.

It appears to be ok

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare7/gladiator.htm

People kind of get there hopes up about certain films think there going to look awesome and then complain about something stupid like the grain.

Like the Coppola restoration of the Godfather films which was awesome but some ignorant people complain about it.

Not every movie is suppose to look like Iron Man or a pure digital source like Wall-E

That DVDBeaver link doesn't say that it's okay, just the the problems are exaggerated. Check out Bill Hunt's comments on The Digital Bits.

Amazon's release date is today.
All the rewiews there an the movie is as it was when it first came out, great movie, but the reviews on the transfer say it sucks big time!

I picked up both Braveheart and Gladiator Sapphire Series despite the so-called edge enhancement and DNR simply because BestBuy was selling them @$17.99 each if you purchased both together!!!  Hopefully Paramount will issue a replacement disc in the future since this Sapphire Series is going to be their best foot forward!!!
