| Posted: | | | | Hi,
Is there anyone that can tell me who to use DVDprofiler on a Windows Home Server?
I have seen an add in "mymovie" for WHS.
Will it be posible to use DVDprofiler the same way?
Kind regard

| Posted: | | | | Welcome to the asylum I run a WHS, but I don't like the mymovie thing. I now run webguide, which can host photo's, musci and video's (iso, avi) on your WHS, and you can even view those vids away from home when you log in to your WHS | | | Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer. |

Henrik You beat me to starting a thread on this. I have just made a major investment in WHS - I have two actually, a main server and a backup server. I have been toying with the idea of some kind of "plugin" that would link WHS with DVD Profiler, but so far, it is not clear to me what the functions / advantages would be over what can be done today, given that WHS creates standard windows shared folders. There is a toolkit for both WHS and DVD Profiler, so there is probably nothing that couldn't be done. Again, the question is: what, if anything, would it be worth it to do? To the original poster, kendra: do you mind if we collect ideas here, or would you prefer me to start a sister thread in the Plugins Forum? One idea I had would be to incorporate the changer support from LoadDVD as a WHS add-in, so that you could pull up data discs off a Sony changer to review under webguide, or start playing a DVD that is streamed - somehow - not sure how. | | | Thanks for your support. *wonders what you really call a plugin for a plugin* Can you give some ideas as to how you envision that to work? (By the way, have you tried the new Ziotek changer with the built-in DVD drive? If so, how is it?) Of course the most ideal thing would be for Ken to make a Profiler add-in for WHS - now THAT would be cool!!!! | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. mediadogg... where do a find the toolkid, for WHS and DVDprofiler? For WHS, just Google it. It will be a Microsoft download. Or you can join "We Got Served" forums for masses of WHS info and help - just like here. For Profiler, you need to request from Ken, access to the Plugin Developer Forum. You don't seem to be the programmer type - I could be wrong - but those toolkits are way beyond "scripting" and HTML coding. Just in case you didn't know ... Again, while it seems a few say "good idea," it is still not clear to me what such a plugin would do, given that you already have the online database and the ability to run PHP on WHS, so you could even run phpProfiler on WHS I guess. Tutorial for installing PHP on WHS is at the We Got Served Forums. If what you mean is simply displaying the database from the XML, MyMovies already does that - but you don't like it, so we would really need to know why before going off and coding something new - otherwise it may turn out to be actually worse that what is already available. | | | Thanks for your support. Any Idears? I use loadDVD. There is nothing special about WHS as far as network shares go. Looks like any other share, example: "\\myserver\movies\movie1.iso" is the filepath. Give it to vlc player and watch the movie. So, it seems the main thing that the add-in would do is give you something on the WHS Console screen, and then there would need to be a way to stream the video from the server to wherever you are. That's a big job - already MyMovies and WebGuide are doing most of that. Those are good programmers I think, so when stuff doesn't work, it is most likely limitations of technology and network reliability. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | it is proberly not a add in for WHS, but for Popcorn hour, I want to connect the Popcorn to a share on the Whs. But I look for an addin that can get the infomation from DVDprofiler to generate pictures of the cover and some of the other info from DVDprofil. and be able to start the movie by "ckiling" on the cover image.

Any idears? I have to do some study of Popcorn (I have no idea what that is) before I can comment. Maybe somebody else has an idea. I'll be back ... OMG is it some $300 device! DVD Profiler is $30, and most plugins are free. Seems like you are asking the wrong people for help on this!!! You should make Popcorn provide its own butter! WAITAMINUTE!!!! Popcorn has a plugin kit, and a contest to get a free popcorn for plugins ... Hmmm ... (But I'd better wait until I see what Ken is putting into the new release first.) | | | Thanks for your support. | Posted: | | | | Quoting EdwinK: Quote: I like popcorn, but only when slightly salted. No butter please. Ha ha .. me too actually. (BTW still waiting for your answer on what you think about the new Ziotek changer with built-in DVD player) Still studying. Lots of confusing options. Lots of people in the game of "Home Theater" and media players. I know one thing: if Ken decided to build this into his product, you could have some kind of amazing dyn-o-mite thing. Popcorn Hour, for example is greatly enhanced by web site applications that send information to the box. Invelos already has a website with the entire database. It could send special info to the box to provide "Popcorn (DVD) Profiler", and it could be amazing. That would be a good way to get synergy between your desktop, TV set and mobile phone. A plugin could only do some of that, and it would be slower and more buggy because somehow the desktop plugin needs to communicate with the Popcorn plugin, which has to scrape from the Invelos web site ... bleh ... Two scenarios I'm trying to figure out: - click on the LoadDVD icon, and the media plays thru Popcorn into your Home Theater. The Popcorn plugin would be a "catcher" for video streaming from LoadDVD. I have been playing with designs for a long time now. Just never finalized an approach. Now that VLC Player is stable on Vista, I might pick this activty up again, using VLC Player as my streaming engine. - A popcorn app that shows your collection, then plays the video, using LoadDVD filepaths and changer support. (actually, I have little personal interest in this option). Other scenarios are covered already. You can already play any media from your network shares, including WHS on the box, right? That is what it is designed to do - no plugin needed. Correct me if I'm wrong ... | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!!
